What do you want from a home entertainment system?

Hi,

I am currently involved in designing a new home entertainment system integrated into furniture and wanted to find out what features you would most like included, for example built in audio, tv tuner and recording facilities, media storage, etc. Any feedback would be helpful!

Thanks

Chris

Re: What do you want from a home entertainment system?

Something that would be quite handy for me would be like a built in touch screen remote control which controls everything from lighting to your av equipment (which would remove the tv tuner idea you mentioned possibly?).. or like a dock for a learning remote control.

then it depends just how far out you'd want to go... light/ power switches built into it so if you have a projector screen you can simply flick a few switches and you can turn your lights of and the screen will come down etc.

Drinks holder?

Vibrating massage thingy?

ricliner?

where to begin!!!!

Or have I miss understood? Whats the rest of the setup?

Is this a uni type project or a real product? What sort of furniture? Storage unit? Chair? table?

Its a real product, currently it is taking the form of a modular unit to place your tv on, it has a media centre pc invisibly integrated with the option to add more modules to it as you go along such as extra hard drive space, sub-woofer etc.

  1. Hidden storage for media
  2. Cable management
  3. Integrated drop down projection screen
  4. Integrated lighting

I would prefer it had a back panel and bracket for fixing the tv, i think it looks cleaner than a stand.

Re: What do you want from a home entertainment system?

I like my Home entertainment to be as minimal as possible. The focus is the screen itself and to me, a modular unit would be the last thing I would like to see.

Personally I feel modular units for your TV are a little 80's

I have to agree with Indecisive, not to pee on your bonfire but I too think its a wee bit 80's sprinkled with 21st Century gadgetry, some may go for it but not sure its for the mass, but hey ho my wife tells me I'm always wrong so I could be again.

You have not seen his design yet. It is entirely possible to do the above and keep it sleek and minimal.

Oooh I read it that you were trying to make some sort of home entertainment chair lol.

Quite honestly I cant really contribute as Im with people above, its all about minimalism, and in which case it would be simply about building space for a good amount of units. One thing that would be key is having a section suitable for an amp, so it must both be deep and also provide adiquate ventilation.

If you take a photo of an average product in an amazing environment, it will look average. Take a photo of the same product in a run down environment and it will stand out as something special (as they have done here).

In my opinion, you could achieve the same effect with a floating wall and some Ikea units for a fraction of the price.

This sort of overpriced designer furniture doesn't impress me.

It will however attract the attention of the consumer with money to burn and the desire for a pre fabricated feature wall style unit that will not require any modification to the property.

I have to say that this is not what I expected when you mentioned modular TV unit and wish you luck with your design.
