The Bat Barn - thread #2

Hi all. I've been asked by the mods to start a new thread to take over from the original Bat Barn thread, as threads with more than 1000 posts apparently slow the forum db down. I'll update this thread with any further progress in the barn from now on. Cheers .

Re: The Bat Barn - thread #2

Well, I read from start to finish and all I could think about when seeing the subs was putting my head in the middle of one.

Gives me big ideas on what to do, shame my wallet won't let me!

Not really been on these forums whilst at uni, but just got back for the summer and found out you've finally finished! Congratulations on a build that looks absolutely marvellous. I gotta tell you this truly is something I aspire to- here's hoping the job market has picked up by the time I finish with it all :D.

Re: The Bat Barn - thread #2

Hi Shock, a while since I've tuned in.

I've just watched the video again, and have a quick question.

How often do you watch films - does the fact that the barn is a seperate building put you off.

The reason I ask is that I used to have a bat cellar, now I have a screen on my ceiling which I pull down. Sometimes on a Friday night (film night) I'm that knackered that I can't be bothered to pull the screen down, and I used to occasionally not be arsed about going down to the cellar.

Any problems?

Re: The Bat Barn - thread #2

Hi guys. I've been a bit quiet on here lately following the birth of our 2nd kiddie, who along with our 2-yr-old is keeping us pretty busy at the moment!

Steve...hope all is well. I agree with the separate building thought. Watching a film in the barn is definitely an "event", as it involves leaving the house & "popping next door" so to speak...whatever the weather, and probably means I use it less than I otherwise would. But, it's useful for all the noise to be away from the main house when you have children sleeping! The main issue is that my wife doesn't feel so comfortable being separate from the house with the children in bed, even though we of course lock the house & bring baby monitor with us. So much so in fact that she has watched a grant total of...two films in the barn! Crazy I know, but then this isn't really her "thing" anyway. I would say overall that I haven't used the barn as much as perhaps I thought I might...but every time I do, it feels like a special occasion .

Chirino - the remote control I eventually went for is the Logitech Harmony One.

You should look at maybe getting some wireless IP cameras. They're great for keeping an eye on the kids when you need to. I also use mine to make sure the Mrs is keeping the house tidy while I'm at work

Congrats on the new birth

Shame you don't get enough use out of the barn :\ . You could always donate equipment to the AlexHodgeGetHimAnAwsomeCinema charity

Shock, you're just in front of me and Me Julie.

Freya is two in October, and her little brother/sister is due at the start of September.

Surprisingly, not being able to watch a film because I have to 'keep it down' hasn't been a problem.

Freya is one of our top choices for offspring #2, lovely name.

As offspring #1 has the hearing of a superman , spiderman and a bat combined, I've become accustomed to watching barn busting movies at woefully inadequate volume.

The better half says apparently hermetically sealing the little uns room and putting cotton wool in her ears is frowned on...

Stupid Liberals....

Sorry to hijack thread..

Are the images on page 1 of the other thread the current progress or are there some later images to find after a trawl ?

Hey Steve, congratulations! Not what you want to hear, but two are a lot more than double the trouble!! Still, already starting to see a little interaction between them, which is fun.

This thread has encouraged me to negotiate a movie night...so...wife has both baby monitors...check...I'm in barn with wine, jaffa cakes, and a fresh Blu-ray of Ghostbusters....check.

Sounds dangerous. I don't think you want wine or chocolate in your hands when those subs start singing. That's a nice carpet...Incredible setup all round in fact. I'm not quite as much of a bass nut as you obviously are but to have such a terric screen and a beautifully finished room....so envious.

Stumbled across this thread earlier. Shock this setup is probably my favourite i've seen on here. It really is a proper den that you've created here! I know it has been a while since anything was last posted, have you made any additions or updates?

Hi Andy. Actually, the barn looks more or less frozen in time as I've not changed anything over the past couple of years. There are things that could always be improved, but none glaring enough to spoil my enjoyment of the room.

Time moves on though, and so are we. We accepted an offer on our house a couple of weeks ago & expecting to move over the summer. Our new place doesn't have space for such a setup so, sadly, everything in the barn is up for sale. I'll miss the barn a lot, but I've got another challenge that I'm working on to keep me busy (not home cinema related this time!).

ah well it's something a bit different & not exactly relevant for this forum, but I've been a keen cyclist for quite a while & currently in training for this race. I'll be doing it next June, but have a number of events lined up in preparation. A different kind of "fun"

I don't post much on this site, but when I see a build/setup that truly deserves a mention I grab my keyboard.

Wow. Your thread was truly an interesting read and I have to say that it's truly impressive - you must be so very proud

However, as a fellow enthusiast the demo material that I tend to reach for whenever I change something in my setup is either the Pod Race from 'Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace' (not everyone's favourite film I know) or HEAT and the bank job at the end....

Failing that, I used to love the lobby scene in the first Matrix film

Anyway, I hope your setup brings you much joy in years to come and when your little ones grow up you'll be watching Toy Story etc. daily Lol.

Thanks Monkfish. The girls love watching films in the barn, though I have to watch them carefully...fortunately nobody's fallen into the black holes (subs!) yet . As per above post though, sadly we're having to move house so everything in the barn is being sold off. I doubt I'll ever be able to do a project like this again, but I'm glad I had the chance & have certainly enjoyed it immensely.
