Lounge Revamp

Hi all

Long time reader of this forum - thought I'd add a bit back.

We completed an extension on our house a couple of years ago and treated ourselves to a Hitachi 42PD7200 which we planted on the wall. This went nicely with some of the gear that we already had - Sky, Xbox, Deono AVR1601,
and a Lecron DVD player. All at the budget end of the scale but all well reviewed and adequate.

We have never really been satisfied with our set up, and I have now been given the go ahead to make some changes. As you can see from the following photos - Christmas has really taken its toll -

so we have come up with this...

Theres not going to be much in the way of new equiptment, with the posible exception of a home made projector, but we'll see how that goes(!) There is also going to be a bit of future proofing going on to privde cabling for 7.1 system (if it's worth upgrading from 5.1 to 7.1?).

I quite fancy having a go at making my own speakers too, but the kits seem to be more expensive than I would be able to afford, so I need to do some more research there. Why is it that all the best sites/resources for these things are in the states?

Anyway, don't hold your breath, these things seem to take some time! Theres a few radiatiors to move and a bit of fiddling about before I see any real action. I might start making the units in eager anticipation of the finished room, but that isn't necessarily relevant here.

Well, that's the plan, I'll let you know how things go.

Re: Lounge Revamp

The plan looks great (where is the piano going to go?!). You definately need a projector as the TV looks a little lost on that wall. Good luck and look forward to the progress pics.

Re: Lounge Revamp

Thanks for the comments. The piano is being moved out of the lounge to the conservatory - which is also being revamped as a part of the project. When we first did the lounge we had significantly more m2 than before and so we set about filling it up with a "reading area" and baby grand piano. All this did was to reduce our useable space to about what we had before but with bigger furniture. Now we are going to try and have the lounge that we should have had before.

The projector is definately a go. Technically it is relatively simple, its just a matter of sourcing the parts.

Just had a read up on 7.1 and I dont think I will include it, it doesnt seem appropriate for my room.
