10k bedroom build - Help needed with choosing!

Hi guys, I've been lurking for a bit, but it's time to make my first post!

My dad's interested in doing a bedroom home cinema build, and I'm helping out in exchange for getting to watch stuff on it!

He's set himself a budget of 10 grand, and wants it not just for watching films, but also for listening to music, particularly classical stuff, but also a bit of other things. He has experience of high end hi fi, with his once top of the range Linn system. There's a 32" LCD downstairs.

The system must be able to play Blu-ray, along with SACDs. He wants a totally new set up, the Linns can't be involved. He says the sound quality is more important than the picture quality.

He chose the bedroom rather than the normal living room build due to there being a fireplace and french windows in the way of things downstairs.

He's bought a copy of Home Cinema choice, and we're currently considering an Onkyo amp (can't remember the exact model number) and a Mitsubishi VC6000/7000. We're not totally sure about the other things though, and we were wondering if anyone on here could help?

(Mods, please don't move, this will be turned into a build thread eventually.

Welcome to the forums Joe? I'd just really recommend reading as much as possible, then demoing any shortlisted equipment, especially speakers as they are so personal. You may have to go into each sub forum to read up on the individual components such as the projector, possible screen choices, receiver/amp, speakers, etc. That should give you a feel as to which are the popular items and any particular issues (you can always find the negatives on the 'net, the positives are less common).

TBH, depending where you are, it may well be worth going to a good AV dealer and seeing what they suggest. Sure you might save a few quid buying here and there, but they should be able to demo different combinations and it will remove the trial and error.

EDIT: As a dedicated room, you should be able to save a little money if you can accomodate a fixed screen. Some forum members have recommended Carada screens imported from the USA as an example.

Hi Joe, as the above poster has stated you should have a good read around the forums and ask the specific equipment questions in the relevant section of the forums, that way you should get some very good advice.
