Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Funny you should post about this because i have just noticed exactly the same thing on my rope light again bought from TLC.

And like yourself have lost the reciept but may still phone the branch to have a moan.

Will let you know what the outcome is

Thanks

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Same problem here! Purchased from TLC Direct about 2months ago.

They are only on about 4-5 hours per night, and have only been light un-coiled. (They are around a floating wall.)

So far have noticed 5 blubs burning out, going an orange colour, and are starting to turn the rubber black.

Do you think we could get them replaced by TLC Direct? As for they state they last for alot longer than they have!

First post on avforums - been a browser for ages though.. wooo :-)

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

hi guys

i think we should definately look at getting a replacement because mine are only 4 months old also (again a floating wall....Groove inspired!!) and it really affects the light around the wall.

If i have any luck will keep you updated

Try this instead mate:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-...ropelight.html

The normal TLC ropelight isnt LED, its basically small filament bulbs. LED wouldnt create enough heat to melt the casing!

Good luck!

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Just phoned TLC up, and gave them my order number and explained whats happened to the rope light. They sent me an email with attached free post labels to return the rope light back for a refund or exchange.Although I choose to have an exchange, I should of got a refund and just re-ordered the rope light, it would have been quicker! haha.

Go for it guys!

Kobe,
That number was for skytronic not TLC. You need to ring the TLC number on their website. The skytronic number was just to explain the problem to them. However if enough people ring with same problem they may ask manufacturers to look into into why its happening.

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Received my replacement rope light from TLC, and came to fit it around the floating wall today to find that they have sent me 5meters instead of 7meters which I originally had! Looks like another week to receive another replacement! I dont think I will bother with them though if they request sending the 5 meters back. What aload of!

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Duralite produce connection kits to allow you to extend existing ropes or replace damaged sections - as long as you only cut the rope at the specified points it is a simple way to fix the rope light rather than replacing it.

I don't know if there is a problem with recent batches as I installed my Duralite rope well over 18 months ago, it is used daily (it is fixed beneath my kitchen base cabinets as a continuous plinth light) and so far I have no discolouraion or blown bulbs.

Technically you don't need to produce a receipt if the goods are faulty, you just need to prove that you bought it from them, so a credit card or bank statement should suffice. Contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau if you're uncertain: Citizens Advice website

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

Phoned TLC this morning, told them the replacement they sent me was 2meters short. They immediately dispatched me 7 meters of ropelight for next day delivery free of charge, and said to keep the 5meters they had already sent... Cant fault there customer service really!

Re: TLC ropelight bulbs gone and sleeving gone black

had the same problem too, tlc have sent a new one out. they said that it must have been connected wrong! but will send me a replacement anyways? the rubber casing is obviously not up to the job

they do an led version which i never noticed when i bought the first time round, i reckon they would be far better.
