hey there, after seeing so many amazing home theatre set ups i decided to do up a modest set up myself.. but i have a question about mdf boards..

i live in an apartment (quite old one too) so I can't find any stud and don't think there's any.. on the wall I'm planning to put the tv on... so I decided to use MDF like some members here did. BUT my question is, how did you guys lock it upright?? is there a base support? or just all nailed into the wall? i'm thinking of nailing them to the wall with metal anchor to keep it in place but thinking i might need a base support at the bottom too..

also if I just use hi glossy paint, would that yield nice laminated look?

sounds like you may have a dot and dab wall, push a screw driver through it to see what is behind ,you may find some blockwork if it is a wall between you and next door. if it is a partition in your apartment and you cannot find a stud then it is prob paramount walling ,2 pieces of plasterboard sandwiching a honeycomb centre terrible stuff. to fix mdf to this get yourself some heavy duty plaster board fixings and some sticks like sh*t adhesive . the best way to get a good finish on mdf is have it sprayed or a trade undercoat and gloss for gods sake do not use one coat it does not do what is says on the tin.

i have found... nothing behind the walls... crapppp
I might just buy those ikea tv bench that comes with panel.
I really do'nt want to be doing any painting during winter out on the balcony so I might wait a bit and see what can be done..
