Hi everyone

New to avforums and in fact this is my first post, but dont worry ive been looking through the forums for about a year now and here comes my big office to cinema conversion.

This is the start of my project, upstairs in being extended and decorated, this is where my new office will be. My old office/new cinema room has been made bigger due to planning regulations etc. it's now a great size for a fully kitted out home cinema.

Will be putting current 40" LCD and a new projector in, 96" screen, want seperate sofas, minibar in corner, blu-ray, av receiver, sky hd + room for more

Here are some of the first bits:

alright, floor has been re-concreted, hence humidifier has been placed
side wall: crown paint, lupin
screen wall: crown paint, dramatic - second layer coming tomorrow
flooring soon to be wooden, not yet decided
electrician has run a vga, hdmi and speaker cable through the wall up to the projector unit on the other side
downlights installed

back of room
large window, intend to put some blackout blinds over it
projector unit cabling out from top
minibar soon to be to right of window

so...need advice on the following
projector - i had eyes on the panasonic pt-ae3000 approx. £2000 budget
projector screen - totally blank about pull down only good quality
av receiver - onkyo, denon etc. high quality around £500
speakers - 5.1
blu-ray player
furniture - seperate sofas about 6 leather
any other general comments and advice appreciated

As you have already run the cables have you tested them , esp the HDMI one.

For you budget of £2k for the pj I`ve demoed the Sony VW10 for £1500 and it looked great imo, recievers my choice would be Onkyo as I have 2 of them, can`t comment on any other.

Depends on which amp you choose but if it doesn`t decode DTS MA then get a BD player that does and speakers are a very personal thing, I suggest you demo quite a few and even ask the dealer to loan you some so you`re able to listen to them at home.

One thing to consider (I'm sure some thing I'm barking over this) is trying to find a projector that is 3D ready. I confess I don't know the pace of 3D roll-out in the UK but in the US Commercial Cinemas are upgrading to 3D capable digital projection systems while the movie production industry has made a commitment to crank out a LOT of 3D content in 2009.

Manufacturers like Samsung and Mitsubishi and Phillips have 3D tvs on the market and Infocus has 3D ready PJs on the market and many other models will be available in 2009.

So if 2D flat visual entertainment is FINALLY going to evolve to multi-dimensional 3D I think it should be considered by those looking to buy their first projector or are looking to upgrade.

Just a suggestion that you do a bit of online research into 3D as you compare makes and models.

Al, by vw10 if you mean hw10 then im with you, looks like a great projector for that price, any opinions on panasonic projectors in general, have had a look at you build, looking great. Which Onkyo recevier do you have? I have eyes on the TX-SR706 any opinions? Like the look of your 905, but a bit pricey for me

jay, i'm unsure about 3d, quite confused about why you would need a special tv for it, surely you can just change the signal to that funny 3d picture. If 3d projectors are reasonably priced when i come to buying, i may consider
