If i was to use a crimp butt connector and insulation tape, would this be acceptable? I have the heat shrink sleeving if required?

Thanks

Re: help with extending a broken earth wire on 2 gang switch

From talking to an electrician friend a while ago, I think it is technically acceptable to crimp the connection and insulate before just covering with plaster or whatever final finish you want, although he did say he wouldn't normally use that method out of choice. Unhelpfully, I can't remember what he would do instead!!

Sorry for muddying the waters a bit, someone more in-the-know will be along soon.

Cheers!

Re: help with extending a broken earth wire on 2 gang switch

The rules are that a screw terminal must be accessible for inspection. I think butt connectors are acceptable for use if the join is not going to be accessible providing that a mechanical (ratchet) crimper is used. Not 100% on that but I think its right

Re: help with extending a broken earth wire on 2 gang switch

ok,

If i was to terminate the broken earth wire with a 5amp terminal block? And as i have two earth wires, I can use the one which is not broken, and feed into the back box earthing terminal and have a spare earth wire going into the back box to swtch? Would i need two earth wires going into the swtich?
