Batoning Advise For Flush Fit Plasma

Guys

Im starting my extension room AV fit out tomorrow. One of the first things I need to do is baton off the wall that the TV (Panasonic THPZ80) is going on. The plan is to have the Plasma screen flush with the plaster finish of the batoned wall. To achieve this i need to calculate the depth of the plasma + bracket, simple enough. The bracket holds the screen from 20mm from the wall and the plasma is 95 mm so 115mm in total. Im thinking that ill baton of the wall with 2 x 4 (100mm) and by the time the plaster board is on 12.5mm and then a skim of plaster 3/4mm?? I should be about right.

What im looking for is advise from any one that has done this already, anything i should be considering? any tips for getting it just right?

Just to add finally, i don't have the TV yet! But im thinking im going to be told to get it before i start?

J

Jay - you could get a telescopic bracket - that will give you even more margin for error. I just used one and it meant my usual 'ish' measerments were suffice!

Buy some penny washers so when you connect the bracket to the wall or when connecting the bracket to the TV you can space the bracket out in milimeter steps untill you get the desired flush finish.

Guys, great advice on both posts! My concern was so much about getting the right depth with the baton frame, i hadn't really thought about adjusting the bracket to get the correct finish! makes a lot of sense though.

thefathacker - what bracket did you get?

Hi mate - satellite delay in my response I know - but just in case you are still wondering, I got one of these.

Very highly recommended by people on these here forums and it just happened to be the bracket with the slimmest 'closed depth' I could find. I've had it a fair while now and the TV has been back and forth countless times - still in perfect condition. A mate of mine bought one of these recently. It was a bit cheaper, and a bit thicker when closed, but it works perfectly and seems very sturdy.

Re: Batoning Advise For Flush Fit Plasma

just incase you haven`t started yet

unless your wall your going to fix the 2x4 battons to is perfectly plumb you`ll end up with a new wall which is the same.

I`d use 2x2`s and make it plumb as I built it, also what fixings were you going to use to go through 4" inch of timber first then 4" into the wall?

let us know please and if you have started where are the pics??
