Hi guys,

I didnt really know where to put this, I hope somone can give me the quick awnser.

Right here I go, at the moment I have 9 devices running from one power socket, is this stupidly dangerous or not too much of an issue. I know nothing about electrics I turn it all off at the wall when not in the house.

Any help advise much apreciated.

Re: Help with power sockets and extenstion leads....

That all doesn't sound too bad. It all depends on what they are plugged in to. I assume it's an extension lead with 8 sockets - if so it should say on it what the maximum load can be in watts. What is this?

I have a similar arrangement in my office with several devices plugged into an 8 way extension lead - PC, laptop, printer, speakers, etc. As long as you aren't using anything which has a high rating (e.g. a 3000 watt bar heater) you should be ok. Just don't do what I did when I decorated my last house - I plugged two 2000 watt wallpaper strippers into an extension lead which only allowed 2300 watts when uncoiled. I plugged them both in when the lead was still coiled up and smoke came off it a few minutes later!

You can usually tell if the kit is too much for the extension lead as the plug and the cable will get hot

Re: Help with power sockets and extenstion leads....

I would check what plug is on the end of the power bar. Most often with server cabinet power blocks the plug isn't a standard household plug but one designed to connect into a UPS. It might be worth you buying a good quality power block with surge protection from somewhere like Argos.

In which case I would go with the comms cabinet block - better than daisy chaining for sure!
