Advice sought on best way to hang velvet from walls and ceiling

Hi chaps

I have ordered 30 sq m of black velvet to hang from my walls and ceiling in order to improve the image from my projector, but am struggling to think of the best way to hang it

It comes in 1.5m wide strips, I will be hanging 2 strips along both side walls ceiling to floor, and also across the width of the ceiling.

My best idea was to install some from of tongue and groove system, such that I glue two 3m 'groove' strips at the edges of the ceiling, cut two strips of velvet to room width, glue the 'tongue' sections to the velvet, then simply slide the tongues into the grooves and hey presto the velvet is held nicely in place across the width of the ceiling, to a depth of 3m. This way the fabric would be nicely taught with no ripples, only a small amount of glueing would be required, and I could remove it easily if required.

For the side walls, I would just affix it in a similar way at the top and let it hang loose at the bottom (Could use an extra bit of length to hide some speaker wires).

The problem I am having is that I am having no luck in locating any of the 'tongue & groove' type fixings that I am picturing in my mind.

Can anybody offer any useful advice on this, or alternatively offer me the benefit of their experience if they have attempted something similar or taken a different approach?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Cheers

Stu

In my current room I stapled some black cotton fabric along the top of the walls and let it hang down to the floor. The cloth is quite lightweight and it works well. The room is a batcave so I cannot see the staples at all.

Alternatively you could get some industrial strength velcro (rated at 7kgs for a 2" square)

Sorry if my suggestions are rubbish.

There are some fantastic threads over on avs for home cinema builds you may way to have a browse on there as well.

If you want it to look like curtains, then it has to be gathered..so it hangs in folds..Otherwise it will just look like a black sheet hanging..

If there's a women in your family who can do sewing..she might make them up for you..
My sister made mine for me..

For it to hang properly, you will need a simple curtain rod at the top of the walls..
Just use a simple rod and brackets ( the standard white brackets) and paint them black..
You won't even notice them..

This is how I did my curtains..
