Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

HI,

I'm trying to wall mount my 37" lcd in the living room to a wall thats plaster board (not dot and dab) over hollow breeze block (cinder blocks-1970's house), the bracket is a swinging arm, can anyone advise how best to secure it? What bolts to use??

I've read loads on here suggesting anchor type bolts which is great in solid brick but with it being hollow it a pain..

I've already mounted it twice, the first time 4 out of the 6 bolts I could tighten good but 2 had no grip, the second time ( I moved it a bit higher) only 3 bolts were anywhere near good enough, the block just crumbles or goes into the hollow..

Please, any advice or help would be great!!

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

It is likely that as you start to tighten the anchors the expansion is breaking the block in the surrounding area. You could try using resin anchors and cross your fingers that your drilled holes miss the frogs altogether or that they get enough surface area around the anchor for the resin to adhere to.

Instead of anchors - you could buy resin and seperate studding. All is not lost! Keep at it!

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

The best way to mount on a cinder block wall would be to fix an oversized piece of 18mm MDF that you can get a good number of conventional screws and heavy duty wall plugs to spread the pull-out forces over several points.

Once you've got that sorted, fix your mount to the MDF using coachscrews or similar

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

thanks for the help guys, have got some resin thats good stuff that I did fill the holes with before so I'll try that again but with more. I was also thinking about mounting a piece of wood to the wall then the bracket so may give the mdf a look at..

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

Id maybe use ply rather than MDF, as it will be stronger for screwing into.

cheers mark, funnily enough I sent my dad out to get the mdf and he came home with ply saying it will be better so he's going to crack on with it tomorrow..

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

MDF would be OK - it's easier to finish and get a better looking end result than splintery, grainy old ply

Re: Wall Mounting To Hollow Breeze Block

Hi,

just in case this thread is still monitored. I have the same problem with Hollow Block. However, Fischer are now doing Resin Sleeves. You insert these in the holes you have drilled, then squirt the resin in and then the bolt. The sleeves are perforated all the round and along the lenth. This allows the resin to escape into the void and makes a solid lump behind when cured.

Hope this helps somebody

Steve
