How high on the wall for a plasma?

Im finally mounting the 50" plasma onto a wall from the stand its currently on. Is there a rule of thumb for how high on the wall the tv should be? Someone has said 6 inches above the height of my head when seated - is that right as it seems very low. Thanks.

You should always view your tv at eye level when sitting down ( the middle of the screen ).
This puts no stain on your neck.

For future reference, there's an edit button! (The bottom right of your post, next to the quote button).

As for how high you should put your plasma, it's entirely personal preference. Personally, I like (roughly) the middle of my screen to be at eye level. But some people prefer them much much higher (seen some virtually on the ceiling on here).

If you're really not sure, you could always cut out the size of your plasma in cardboard and stick it on the wall at various heights to see which position you feel most comfortable with (not as daft as it may sound!).

Re: How high on the wall for a plasma?

I asked the same question to a bloke working in an independent AV shop in Sussex. He told me that generally most people mount too high on the walls (as stated by dts) similarly he also said the ideal is for the centre to be at seated eye level although this can look too low on the wall for most people's tastes.

He suggested as a rule of thumb to make sure the bottom of the screen is not higher than seated eye level or another rule of thumb was 100 - 110 cm max above floor level.

Just an opinion of someone who seemed to make sense.

Re: How high on the wall for a plasma?

I have a 50" mounted on wall with middle at seated eye level, now it does look a bit weird but to me makes viewing most comfortable. Most people i think only mount them high because the only place the can fit them in is above the fireplace(me i just removed the fireplace) and they are used to seeing them in pubs and shops where they have to be high for most people to see them and most of the time you are looking at these you are standing. So for me, middle of screen at seated eye level is best just takes abit of getting used to.

Re: How high on the wall for a plasma?

I've seen this sort of question on here a few times and the answers always make me smile!

Regardless of what the 'experts' may say, there is only one correct height and that is the one you prefer.

Consider the viewing position and room aesthetics. My TV is far higher than eye level and I've never had any liability claims for neck or eye strain from visitors, nor have I ever - in 4 years - sat/lied/sprawled/stood there watching the tv and thought - oooh, my neck/eyes are hurting!

mclb01's 'rule of thumb' seems like a good suggestion - IMHO tvs at eye level sometimes ruin the whole look of a room - but then again aesthetics are important to me.

Spoken like an 'expert' lol. I agree with everything you said mate - I think it's all to do with seating distance, ceiling height, and of course, aesthetics !

When mounting my bedroom LCD, I drew a rectangular outline on the wall that was roughly the same dimensions as said panel (before redecorating !), and looked at it from various positions in the room, including the most obvious seating/lying position, and after a couple of attempts, chose the one that just 'looked right'. Then it's a simple case of recording the distance from floor to the bottom of the panel/rectangle.

I'm more than happy with it's position.
