Quick stud wall question

If you are building a stud wall on a concrete (e.g. garage) floor, how do you attach the bottom stud (soleplate?) to the floor without breaching the DPC?

Re: Quick stud wall question

I will get slated for this by the purists but hey - it's Tuesday - who gives a s**t?!

Older houses (such as mine - 1950's) often don't have DPC beneath the slab. I have carried out various projects and have had to 'breach' the slab to do so - 12 years on and no worries! (He says with as yet un-noticed damp spreading through the house! )

But, in the interests of giving sound advice, the best way to go would be as Sean says and to Gripfill the batten to the floor. For added security, if you can, cut your upright lumber 3-4mm longer than it needs to be to wedge it between floor and ceiling.

When we had our basement tanked the stud work was wedged in as described above as we could not use anything that would penetrate the floor and wall. The top rail was secured to the roof joists though.
