My Simple living room design.

Hey folks not long been a member here, but since joining have been a fellow reader on all threads, and then got my inspiration from http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-diy/734383-sworralls-floating-wall-thread-yes-another-one.html and http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-diy/592961-grooves-new-lounge-floating-wall-build.html. Then started to explain to my misses what I thought would look good in our living room, managed to persuade her, she then decided if I was to have some type of floating wall and screen. I also had to decorate. "did not really mind".

So this is how our living sort of looked when we first moved into our house. Will be 2 years this christmas.

This was just after we moved in not really much happening in the pics, and looks really empty but it was fun as it was ours.

Then managed to pain a bit.

You can see from this pic I have a few things on my glass stand. PS3 60gb, Sky+, Phillips media center, samsung 32", USB hard drive 200gb and of course our little CHUNKY. Oh and lots of wires
.

Re: My Simple living room design.

So then started to plan and design what i was going to exactly have and how long its going to take and how much its going to cost. So firstly had to try and move furniture around so i could get to the main wall i was going to work on.

The main wall I am going to work on is my internal wall "in a semi detatched house" you can see from the cat tree and different cat in the pic above that they are going to be enjoying this as much as I.

I will continue to add more pics with how far I have to got tomorrow, Still working on it as I type this but hope to be finished in the next couple of weeks.

Re: My Simple living room design.

Started marking and measuring on the main wall with masking tape. just to work out center points and any electric cables. As my house is a 10 year old house found that there is not many wooden studs between the plaster board and breeze block. so had to drill some tests holes first.

measurements and markings with masking tape.

testing holes drilled.

To hold my 32"Samsung lcd on the wall i brought this from pc world. Had good reviews and it seemed ideal for what i needed.

As you can see from this pic of the wall mount up on the wall I was still unsure if it would be safe enough with it just being held on via breeze block so drilled in plenty of long solid screws.

I had two power sockets close.

Just a little glimpse of the height the tv would be at.

Some liked to work hard!!!

Next thing was wood work and marking and sawing, for my floating wall. Decided to paint surrounding wood Dont ask me why...

LOL yeah. That was my next lot of work completed. I used rope lighting and placed it around the wooden beams ( sawed the corners so it would be alot smoother on the lighting). Also have now attatched my 84" electric screen. " WHAT A NIGHTMARE" that was..

ever so sorry LOL.

Few more pics of rope lighting attatched to wooden frame.
does not look to bad have quite a dark room especially with chocolate suede curtains which block out a lot of light.

I first brought multi coloured lighting but when i stuck it up did not feel it gave the best surround look and feel. so then had a real nightmare sending it back and changing just for neon blue. Had to pay the extra £5 for re delivery. Think it was worth it now looking at the quality they show.

Re: My Simple living room design.

This weekend was a big weekend for my lots of work completed.

sanded and Painted, laid flooring, laid beading, carpet was installed on stairs and landing, Put false wall up with cuts outs.

As you can see from the picture its looks a mess at the moment. also managed to fill holes and sand down. Was pretty tired come Sunday night.

From this picture you can just make out the sockets, it was very close and very tight for to use the sockets. But just about managed to plug two serge protectors in.

me and the misses were very happy with the guys who laid the carpet did a very good job. " prob not interested in the pic, but just got trigger happy with my cam at the moment".

These pictures show how I fixed the rope lighting to the beams

Re: My Simple living room design.

Nice wall mate pretty much at the same stage myself wall wise anyway, check out my page !

How come you went with the blue neon ropelight ? I considered a different colour but thought white/yellow was a bit more mellow..

Hi kumack again, The flooring was a great buy. We got it from www.floors2go.com, Luckly for us there is a shop close buy so was able to pop down and have a better look. The flooring i laid was not our first choice, But now very please with it, Cant quite remeber the name though will ask the misses when she comes in later.
