Chasing Cables in new house

I'm about to move into a new house and want to do a nice clean install. The developers have been nice enough to put a plug above the fireplace ideal for a plasma but I will need to chase an HMDI cable to the AV Unit, and also speaker wire from the AV Unit to the front, centre and left ... how would people advise doing this in a new build. It is an external wall but I think new houses tend to be dot and dab. Does this make it easier or harder to chase cables? The gf will kill me if I make a mess of her brand new wall!!

Re: Chasing Cables in new house

Hi

I've just done the same in my house. You'll probably find it is dot and dab.The good thing about this what i found was, that where there is no "dot" the cables will fall into the void meaning only a small channel is needed. When you do get to the "dots" then it starts getting messy with the dry lining. Use a quality filler over it all and it should all dissapear no problem.
If there are any big holes where things went wrong then buy a bag of dry lining. It sets like concrete. I'm sure you'll be fine with it all.
