Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

Evening all. Just about to ceiling mount my DRH, 234cm 16.9, Tab Tensioned screen...

...for this bad boy to zapp...

and I'm just wondering about screw choice. It came with a couple of these two-holed brackets which can be placed anywhere along the housing

Also supplied with four of these, but I'm assuming there for masonry.

I've already identified a couple of joists to screw into, but it still seems a lot of kit to hang off four screws.

As always advice welcome.
Cheers

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

i used these for my electric screen, made a plate from ply wood to go above the plasterboard which i also screwed to the joist to be sure, (very heavey them electric screens.

the other real advantage is you just push the toggle through the hole already mounted to the screen and hole, so you are not holding the screen and trying to start a screw on its thread,

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

So, ijd, if I read you right you secured the screen to a plate which in turn was secured through the ceiling plasterboard and into the joists behind with toggles coming back down and going through the bracket holes? Yes?

Very do-able but I'm hoping not to have to add anything additional to the ceiling which will be visible – but if thats what it takes...

Cheers.

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

Just use screws, through the brackets straight through the plasterboard and in to the joists. 2.5 inch 10's would work fine.
The fixings ijd has linked to are cavity fixings, you dont want them if you can fix straight in to your joists.
The fixings supplied are for fixing in to masonry

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

i lifted the floor boards and put the plyboards here you cannot see them, below the floorboards on top of the ceiling, i used plated because of the weight, so the screw goes through the screen and fit the toggle nut pust the nut through ceiling plasterboard and the plate which is on the top, the toggles open out and hold the screen in place, then tighten as ness.
it is easy to pus through the hole and they hold instanly.
i felt the problem screwing to the joist was, you have to hold the screen till the screw bites and then tighten it while still supporting the screen, my wife helped me mount mine, and like i say it is heavy, she would not be able to hold it and get the screw fixed, or hold it long enough for me to fix my end then releive her and fix her end.
the other advantage is you can put the screws where you like without being tied to joist position.

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

Sadly I don't have access to the floor above or I might have considered your way ijd. Get what you're saying about keeping the screen in position for screwing but I've ran a plumbline across the ceiling and used it to mark the brackets position as they can be removed from the screen. I should then be able to secure them before lifting the screen back onto them.

Quick rummage in the toolbox reveals no screws big enough anyway (could have sworn I had some) so it's a trip to B&Q in the morning. The end is in sight (apart from black-out curtains of course).

Re: Which screws for screen ceiling mount?

If the brackets are not removable from the screen, get someone to hold the screen in place then put the screws in with a cordless screwdriver.
1 minute at most to put in 4 screws with a cordless.

john.
