fairly straight forward plug/socket question

having long since dumped Sky and gone Freeview my Mum has asked me to tidy up the old redundant cables.

Rather than simply cut them off at the wall I prefer to put a surface wall box on in case there is a change of mind at some point.

However its an odd combination of cables. The TV co-ax comes in the house independantly so thats all sorted. So that leaves two sat co-axes (they had sky+) and an FM. I can't believe I'll find a standard plate to do that.

Would I be able to do it with a module system ?... If so who might manufacture what I need ?

As usual .... grateful for any help in advance.

Re: fairly straight forward plug/socket question

For the sat, the best thing to do would be get a blank faceplate and two barrel F-Connectors, if buying from maplins youll also need to buy two surface mount F-Connectors for the nuts they have on them. Drill two holes in the faceplate, stick the barrels through and attach with the nuts. Terminate the two coaxs with F-connectors and screw them onto the back of the barrels. Screw the faceplate down (this is assuming youve already fitted a backbox) and voila, a nice neat sat outlet with very little signal losses compared to the screw down ones you can buy.

Afraid I cant help with the FM one, but consider just what the possibility of it being used in the future actually is. Considering radio is now available on freeview, sky etc. If you did actually need it for a radio then it would be easier to use a simple plug in one

If your not using them, why not just cut them so there about 4-5" out of the wall, lable them and then coil them up into the back box with a blanking plate on the front.

If you do need them in the futre the're there ready for you just to find a face plate for what you need or just drill a hole in the face plate and barrel them on to a cable for the sky or tuner.

Sometimes the best answers are the simplest.... LOL !

Why should I pay good money for a load of electrical bits and pieces that I'm very unlikely to use ?

White wall box and blank front plate will be purchased this weekend. All I'll need now is 2 or 3 inches of adhesive tape and jobs a good 'un...

Cheers fella !
