Mistere set up wip so far

Hi all,
After many months (9) of soul searching to find the right false chimney install finally I have enough pictures to post my set up so far.
Work commitments have limited me to 2 hours construction a day.

My set up so far

Samsung PS50Q97HD
Panasonic DMR-EX87EB
Panasonic SC-PT860
SKY HD
Nintendo Wii

Work completed

Wall construction
Plasterboard fitted
Wall bracket plasma mount fitted
Plasma Installed
Recessed lights fitted
Centre and front speakers installed in wall

Work in progress

Plastering joints etc
Lights in fire alcove (where centre speaker is mounted)
Remote control of lights with Harmony One (Picking up Wednesday)
Doors for cabinet underneath (Bain of my life at the moment)
Wiring surround speakers
Decorating whole room
Wallpaper the false chimney
Relaxing when all finished

Future project

Perspex coffee table
Projector and screen
Media PC setup

Hope you all like it so far

I am hoping to make some doors/drawers from MDF but having an inspirational block any advice?

If you sign up to an image hosting site like photobucket, just upload your pics there, then cut and paste the URL to the text of your post, place no spaces, so for example it it would look like this :-

hope that helps

Re: Mistere set up wip so far

The set up of the harmony one is quite simple
You just have to remember that when you have to input you hdmi etc settings that they have to be spelt the same as displayed on your tv.
If your hdmi is in capitals with a full stop after it do it that way example HDMI. not just hdmi

Re: Mistere set up wip so far

Spent all evening trying to remove a very bad hum from center speaker !
After all night of changing settings and cables I found out it was the fm ariel cable input for the radio causing the interferance
What a simple but puzzling thing !
Harmony one being tweeked as we speak I LOVE IT my 8 year old daughter can use it no problem, and if there is she knows how to use the help function (smart daughter or easy remote)

Used a special plasterboard slide cutter like a T square to get excellent edges

Mistere, very nice mate, good work! A few questions if I may? What is the size of the timber you a using, where did you get it from and how deep is your "wall"? I'm getting very close to doing one of these so I'm past the idea stages and into the planning stages...
Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!
The timber was 2in x 2in mainly and some 4in x 2in
Purchased from a local timber merchant but the price is about the same all over dont buy super top quality treated and plained (in my opinion) just buy solid wood and check it is straight with not many knots
Mine was rough cut and it was cheaper than the treated and plained
Others might disagree but thats what I have found
DIY stores timber seem to be a little more expensive and they only hold small lengths

The wall is constructed depending on you plasma or your own taste

My wall personally is constructed as so the depth of the main false chimney is 34cm which is approx double the depth of my plasma

My plan like many others changed as work in progress as I found "a better way"
Initially my speaker were going beside/along/on the wall then i finally decided to recess them in

Finally think about access to the rear of the plasma, lighting etc before plastering as I have had to remove boards for lighting ( And Cats ) after they were placed up

Hope this has helped any more advise just ask

Re: Mistere set up wip so far

Sorry if you've answered this already but may I ask you a question?

1) How will you get to the back of the TV if you need to, or how will you even get the TV off the wall if it needs to go to be repaired?

Many thanks and well done

2) At the bottom are you intending to fit doors, if so which ones/from where

Many thanks and well done
I have a bracket that pulls out and swivels from right to left
Most brackets "hook" on and with this it takes friends to help lift and fit cables befor mounting plasma
With mine the plasma was fitted then I pulled out the bracket to fit cables

Just incase you were wondering it was £80 from brackets r us
they are hard to get hold of to chase order but they get there in the end
there contact number is 020 7428 0505 incase anyone requires it

If you notice the image with my cats you will see boards at the bottom which are MDF cut at B&Q
I managed to get 7 x 62x50 cm doors cut from one piece of MDF
For the price price of the MDF (2440x1220) only £14
If they were kitchen doors you would be looking at £200+
I intend to paint them or get someone to spray them and as fitting goes some will be permenantly fixed and some hinged some how with concealed hinges but am unsure on fixing

Re: Mistere set up wip so far

After weeks of trying to control my lights (by my Harmony ONE) in my wall I have come up with a solution (hopefully)
Previously I tried to use the HC 8000 One For All sockets which in my opinion are totally rubbish they work SOMETIMES and you have to have the transmitter and reciever so close it was useless.
In the image you will se that I have wired up a Varilight wall dimmer socket and tested it with a Phillips remote (old) to see if it ran with some rope lights and it did from a good distance away.
I havent checked it with the Harmony ONE yet but I am positive that I can mount a Triple dimmer on the side of the wall to operate my lights.
Its a shame that a ready made IR switch with a trailing sensor that could be mounted thru a wall isnt available rather than having to modify a wall dimmer IR switch
