DOU's Bedroom Install

Ok firstly very much in the planning phase.

Thinking false wall chimney thingy.

Hoping that people that have done it can give me tips at this the initial design phase.

Don't think this is quite to scale but the plan so far.

(spotted a few issues with the sketchup but you get the idea)

Re: DOU's Bedroom Install

A good start, where are you thinking of putting the speakers. The chimney breast looks quite wide, but, it would make the frontsoundstage narrow.

Personaly, if the room is big enough. I would extend the width of the chimney breast and create a whole false wall to house all the kit and speakers. You could then build in built shelving for the DVDs/Blurays. Its amazing how much space they take up. False walls are easy to build and with downlighters onto the shelvels and gear, they look really smart.

Good luck with the plans.

Re: DOU's Bedroom Install

No can do on the false wall it's only for a bedroom, I don't think the chimney is that wide, like I say the scale could be out, will update when I am home (did it at work).

Speakers are just going to be TV speakers that mount underneath TV, tannoys are downstairs in the lounge.

Hmm downlighter for shelves, that's a good idea.

The speakers are detachable and I suppose I could improve the soundstage by widening them.

Re: DOU's Bedroom Install

Nice, good to show the G/F some stuff about design to inception too (will prevent the "YOU WANT TO DO WHAT!" comments).

Any chance you could give a rough breakdown of how much it set you back? (sorry)
