MaTrix's Floating wall & Lounge Makeover

Well after a few weeks planning and looking around what to buy i started our floating wall and lounge make over last weekend.

My Home Cinema kit :-

Pioneer 5080XD Plasma
Onkyo 875 Amp
Ps3 ( blu-ray and games)
Wii
Front speakers = Mordaunt Short 914i ( Black)
Middle speakers = Mordaunt Short 903i AVANT ( black)
Rear speakers = Mordaunt Short 302 AVANT
Center = Mordaunt Short 905i (black)
Sky -HD
Just added Toshiba EP30 ( as i got cheap off a mate )

I had tried to use google sketch but found papaer and pen easier to use

Our original lounge

First things first get my old plasma ( Hitachi 9700 ) off the wall.
Then set about filling the wholes in and and hiding them .

Finally it's arrived! Thanks to Steve at TLCbroadcast On the same day got Sky HD installed

Time to start the framework and get those batons on the wall. Also had new plug sockets fitted.

Bracket in place that baby is going nowhere !

Test to make sure it doesn't fall and that everything fits ok.
To this point i'd still not switched my 5080 on yet!

Re: MaTrix's Floating wall & Lounge Makeover

Getting the MDF board home 8ft x 4ft was proving pretty hard even one of my works van couldn't fit it in.

But in the end i paid some guy at B&Q a tenner to take it back for me who was in the car park with a huge van.

Wanted it all in one sheet so i didn't have to join it together and rub it all down to hide ht join .

After much swearing finally got the speaker cable ran down the walls at the back ( 7.1) go to the point where i thought we'd be cutting the walls out but in the end drilling into the plaster board gave us just enough room to thread the cable down.

Emulsioned the walls other than those 2 that we have wall paper on it

Also tidied up the speaker cables that will be hidden in the skirting boards

Re: MaTrix's Floating wall & Lounge Makeover

Wall paper is now all on too.

Have added rope light around the MDF board as well which gives off a nice light when off ( night photo to come)

At last got to start to play with some of the goodies

The picture is stunning really happy with it though i know it wil also take a few hours to bedin correctly too.

At the moment i've got everything going to the Amp then the Amp sending it out Via HDMI to the plasma.

Stil got loads to do setting things up but i'm not to fussed until we get the new carpet in then. Then once we move everything back the fun begins.

Only really had it on to make sure all the speaker and sub wires work ok before the skirting boards go on.

Thats pretty much as far as i've got to date hoping to have al the skirting boards done by the weekend and the new carpet is being fitted next Wendesday.

Hope you like i so far.

It was from either Laura Ashley or Next wife got it

It looks really good in real life pictures don't do the room justice to be honest.

Re: MaTrix's Floating wall & Lounge Makeover

Bring on the pics! Looking forward to this. Love the wallpaper.

Quick question though: Did you stick the paper to the MDF using paste? Since MDF is simply compressed fibre i'd suspect it would warp if the material gets wet. I'm looking to do a similar floating wall in the bedroom but am looking to apply plaster board, quick skim then paste and paper to avoid a warped mdf panel. Interested to hear whether your board was able to withstand paste which could make the board damp.

At the moment we have taken a couple of cushions out of the corner sofa we have in the conservatry

Wil also take some night shots when we have the light on behind the plasma .

Hope you like them.
