acoustic underlay for laminate

can anyone suggest some underlay for laminate flooring which has good acoustic properties and a good thickness so i can channel speaker cables around the edge of the room?

im not interested in acoustic perfection just something that is better than standard stuff and not too dear.

thanks for any comments

Re: acoustic underlay for laminate

I used a layer of this:

http://www.flooring-exposed.com/fine...-96m2-31-p.asp

Then a layer of this:

http://www.flooring-exposed.com/cush...rlay-101-p.asp

And acoustically it's great. There are cheaper places for them if you look around on the net but these are what i came across first.

I needed a good sound insulation solution as i live in a first floor flat and didn't want to have any problems with noise transfer to down stairs.

I used the fibre stuff under my laminate and its still very noise down stairs when people are walking above you. I would be tempted to try the stuff chri$ linked too.

Re: acoustic underlay for laminate

problem with that good underlay is the room is just over 15m2 so would have to buy 2 rolls for just an extra couple of metres!!

Re: acoustic underlay for laminate

Hi all.

About to lay a new laminate floor myself. Does anyone know if the 'Cush'n'Wood' is suitable for use with underfloor heating (electric element type)? Wondering if it would allow the heat to pass through. The current floor is 12mm engineered stuff over a rubber barrier and heats up fine but is noisy. I'm guessing that replacing that with an 8mm and underlay won't restrict the heat – unless the underlay had a thermal barrier layer. Any advice welcome.
