It has begun

Started my HT yesterday & quite pleased so far. I need to plaster over the long gap with the wires so i brought some foam stuff that's meant to fill gaps, then i'll sand down & repaint. Anyone used it?
Foam stuff I'll buy some trunking, apply the foam & then finish with plaster & sand over. Damn messy stuff that foam is tho!

Awating a cabinet which will hold all the AV stuff but PLAY.com haven't delivered it yet, it's nearly been a month. :?
Never done anything like this before, just learned from forums, what would you do without the internet!

Re: It has begun

Looking very cool there Copplepot.

Nice use of the lighting bars. are they colour changing? I've got that same bracket by the way, very easy to put up and very low profile on the wall.

Re: It has begun

Thanks mate.

The lighting is ambient yes, awsome & i'm glad i got them now woth every penny. Very good bracket, had no problems with it so far, was even more pleased with the assortment of bolts & screws you get.

Today i'm going to get some trunking for the wires in the wall, i'm going to try & avoid using the foam i bought because of the mess it causes, instead i'll try to get the trunking a few mm from the surface so plaster will go right over without hassle.

Re: It has begun

Today i got some trunking which makes things 1000x easier & was just the right fit which was good. Shoved all the wires in & then started to plaster, never tried plastering before but it's quite fun. Only a narrow gap to cover & it went quite well, done a few layers now & should be ready to sand down tomorrow. I don't recommend using that foam stuff (No More Big Gaps) it's really messy & doesn't go as hard as plaster.

Tested the lights to make sure everything was still connected, all good so far.

Having trouble finding the right colour paint tho.

How did you secure the wall mount to the wall in the end?

I bought some longer bolts & plugs & went through the plaster into the brick, really is stirdy now although as i was tightening the bolts some of the plaster started to crack. I didn'tthink of that lol.

Re: It has begun

I've managed to do quite a lot since last posting, fitted new lights, flooring, posh black light covers which look quite cool but it's a bugger getting the cover on as you have to line up those pesky screws blindly. The wall hiding the wires has been plastered & painted to the nearest colour, still a bit off mind...
still need my leather sofa & weird looking pc desk which will be in the next few weeks hopefully. Oh & Alphason av stand.

First time i've done any of this so i'm pleased with meself, the lighting wasn't as hard as i thought but the flooring was a pain.

Re: It has begun

^ Thank you.

Another small update, i went to Ikea in the hope of finding a unit to hold my electrical bits & saw TOBO, a large white cabinet that looked half the size online. It fits the wall just right.
I went for white to break up all the blacks that's going to be there, soon to be getting black blinds, black sofa, black PC desk etc etc.

I also removed the legs from the stand as it made it far too tall, the legs themselves were several inches tall!

Looking good

One bit of advice from me re the office chair - If you haven't already, I'd get one of those rubber mats or at least a rug under those chair wheels because they play havoc with the flooring - Groove central!!
