New house lounge project

We moved into out new house at the end of March & i wanted to do the lounge as soon as possible. We wanted to do as much to the house as we can so the budget was tight. Unfortunately that meant doing the work myself & i am useless at diy. I even get nervous putting up a shelf!

Heres the pic of the lounge before we moved in.

For some reason i lost all of the early photos but here i put battens to the ceiling & wall then joined them up with mdf all the way around the room. There is also an upstand to hide a concealed ropelight.

This also allowed me to run all the speaker wires in there & then chop them in the wall where they come down.

I elected to go for the floating wall option. Everyone seems to go for a false chimney breast but i decided against that & went for a genuine floating wall.

Finally managed to board the old serving hatch from the kitchen

Plasterer came & did a good job apart from plastering all my speaker wires in so i had to rip them out!

Picture of ropelight going around the top of the room in the dark

Bracket up & lights installed behind the tv

Telly finally up & joins filled & sanded about 300 times!

Re: New house lounge project

Thanks for sorting out the pics. Here is the room finally finished. I learned a lot & made loads of mistakes but on the whole i am very pleased. With us having bought new kit/furniture recently i could not justify purchasing more just because it matches. With a few subtle touches i think everything blends in ok. Ideally we were going to keep the existing carpet but i had an accident taking off the radiators so we had to get a new one.

This is a fancy light switch which controls both the ropelight & the spotlights.

I will post some more pics of the lights on etc when i get more time.

Nice setup I particularly like the switch. Where did you get it?

Re: New house lounge project

Ruudfood the lights were from an Ebay seller & i cannot remember who but he did have a large selection so they should come up in a search.

Heres some pics with the various lights on. Apologies for the quality but i recently bought my camera & not really sure how to use it properly. They don't really do the lights justice in my opinion. The lights behind the tv are Ikea Dioder which are changeable through various colours

Wow! What a great transformation!

What colour and brand of paint did you use on the false wall section by the way?

Re: New house lounge project

The MDF pelmet thing around the edge is a nice touch, I've got the same thing in my bathroom.

The Tannoys are just the job for me. For a budget system they really pack a punch.
