I'm thinking about making some active speaker stands for my Acoustic Energy AE100i SE's. Basically they will be MDF stands that match the speakers in width (180mm) and depth (240mm), also being 600mm high, that are fitted with a pair of BKelec MF100 (100w) power amp modules.

It would not be purely active as I would need to remove the current crossover and fit an active job (more effort than it's worth at this point). But at least I would then have some form of bi-amped, almost studio style, active floor-standing speakers.

Should be a good fun project should I find the necessary money to fund it.

I wonder where to get the MDF cut?

My B&Q don't do cutting any more, in then end I found Jewsons would do it, they charge a quid per cut, but if it's complicated they'll charge you an hourly rate (in 15 minute chunks), my sub cost me 6 quid for cutting.
