New TV, new look lounge

I have next week off work and as I have just splashed out on my new Tosh I thought I'd try out one of those floating wall thingies!!

I will be posting some pics later tonite as the room is now and will welcome any thoughts and ideas.

first thing is that although I have read through Grooves and other projects, I am unsure what size timber I need for the framework of the wall and also the MDF thickness that will be best.

Thanks

Lee

Re: New TV, new look lounge

Yea , get it done , it will look great.

Regarding the timber , I used Kiln Dried sawn softwood from Wickes - http://www.wickes.co.uk/Sawn-Timber/...at/stkilndried

47mmx75mm for outside frame
47mmx100mm for screen mounting sections
and 47mmx47mm for the middle of the board mountings.

I used 18mm thick MDF , but others have used 12mm without a problem. I just wanted to ensure it was as solid as it could be , but with that comes sheets that weigh a ton !

Re: New TV, new look lounge

Well, here we go. Started yesterday by removing the mirrors and rad from the wall. Then started on the frame and marking out the mdf.

Today will see the wall bracket go on and the mdf cut at the centre and primed ready for painting. Rope light not due in stock till tomorrow otherwise I would have made a bit of a push to get finished tonight!!

Re: New TV, new look lounge

Amost finished now!! Just have to fill and paint the screw holes on the MDF and paint the trunking that I had to run and all there. Hard work in the end and some really tricky bits (getting it level) oh and a little tip....try not to drill through mains cable that has been run diagonally and uncapped in the wall!!!
A new tan brown corner suite has been ordered but have to wait 12 weeks for that

Heres some pics and look forward to comments and opinions

Re: New TV, new look lounge

dont want to be negative but why didnt you put the false wall lower so that it sat flush with your av cabinet or make the false wall longer? i just think the trunking defeats the whole point of having a false wall.

Re: New TV, new look lounge

I totally agree with you on the trunking, but this was more about getting the tv on the wall at the minute. The room will be getting a re-plaster the next time we decorate and as I only had a limited amount of time to get the job done, this was the best option. Not the best but better than it was. Heres a new pic with the trunking painted.

Oh and the paint is Crown choc chip.

Re: New TV, new look lounge

nice... like the colour too...

is it just me or does the last pic show how heavy amps are as it looks like you need another wheel under where it sits to stop the sagging..

what make are the speakers?

That looks like the effect you get with ultra wide angle camera lenses, pin cushion effect I think it's called

Re: New TV, new look lounge

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Sleepy + Gaz 06: The wall mount is secured to the wall with M10 anchor bolts. That TV is damn heavy and no way would you be able to hang it off plasterboard. What is behind your board though...could you fix batons to the wall behind the plasterboard.
The lights are Duralight rope light from www.tlc-direct.co.uk nice and cheap and a great effect.

Rupees al: The Fronts are Gale 3010's and the centre is from a set of Eltax Atlantic.

Also the unit isnt sagging and there is an extra wheel in the centre if the unit. I have stood on that unit before and its solid Ikea at its best!
