Hi all

After many months of construction the room is finally in the finishing stages, however as many of you may have heard from other posts now it is finished i am having huge problems getting photos as it is far too light absorbent

All of the ceilings and walls are fabricked (in front of the listening position and if you look carefully you can see this in some of the photos (the lights look recessed).

I have attached just one image (which looks pretty poor as i have had to rampo the brightness right up in photoshop). This image shows the speakers behind the screen, before fabric goes up, but should show people what the baffle mounting looks like

I actually have in the region of 150 from day 1 up to now, these will all be put up on a website soon.

I hope this acts as an inspiration to others, it really has taken so many hours to get to this stage but when it was turned on for the first time i was truly blown away This is without a doubt the best system i have ever heard, and believe me i have heard loads in my time (i am a custom installer).

I am more than happy to offer any advice to fellow DIY'ers

Right, I have just got the computer genius (my brother) on the case.

Just taken him off of programming a Crestron system for me to do this HA HA HA.

He has compressed the resolution (for those still on dial up in the scottish highlands) of all the images i have here at work. You will see a few gaps in places as there are still a fair few missing such as fitting the ceiling fabric etc as well as some good finished room shots still to come, but this should give everyone a good idea of what has been done. Paint finish (on woodwork) etc is also fantastic now as the photos were taken at early stages.

When i have some time i will produce a proper website with lots of annotation etc, but at the moment i am too busy at work, so you'll all just have to trawl through the images in date order

If anyone wants explanation of any photos i will be more than happy to chat, it has been a long road to completion working just one day a week (all work was done by me / my father in law (to be!) / and a couple of others)

Bear in mind that although I am a custom installer by trade I do not normally do the construction, just tell others exactly how I want it built, it was great to carry out this project solo and know that everything was done to my own very high standards.

Hi Matt:

Silver bit of kit is a Lexicon MC12B (the B means Balanced, hence everything running on XLR). All the speakers are active hence no amps

From memory it's 5.5m long by 2.5m wide, obviously lost a bit behind the screen but thats about right.

In case anyone wonders:

The DVD player is a Denon 3300 which has been SDI modded by Mr Vigatec in Germany, sounds awesome with DVD Audio, very impressed.

Also not to bad in comparison with my old Tag DVD32R, it really is a nice player.

Good Luck V.F. as you know i had huge problems with the local planning in the first place but its worth doing it right.

Also worth taking your time on the room, i lost interest at one point before x-mas and could not get motivated, going to vegas restored my interest though and i have been putting 3-4 hours in every night after work and then all day on Sunday (really must cut the grass now!) Oh and i have promised the woman that i will make the dining room look nice, you can see from the pics what the doorway through looks like at the moment

Just a quick Q? Where did you get those spot covers in the loft? I've been looking for exactly that kind of thing for my setup and cant seem to find 'em anywhere.

If that's the BIG bottles of San Miguel, count me in. Actually I can't drink more than four without going blind, but they are about a litre and a half each

Glad someone noticed these!! I thought that that photo looked excellent

I got them from my local electrical trade outlet, apparently they are not very common, but i was very concerned about fire in the room, as you can see from the pics its all very tight up there with loads of rockwool and all the air con ducting.

These were quite expensive, i think about £140 (for 8 lights) but i feel worth every penny for peace of mind.

As a side issue it has been said before but anyone building a room and making it dark (or fabricked like mine) put loads of lights in so that when you are working you can see what your doing

I have one of the same lights in the centre of our bedroom and it gives of plenty of light, the cinema uses 8 and it is just ok. Still need a torch in some areas But that was my aim total light absorbency.

Quick quiz for everyone:
The other night when i was listening i had all lights off so the room should have been 100% blackout, however the screen was still lit enough to see it quite clearly. any guesses as to what was causing it?? (brought home to me how incredible the surface of a studiotek screen is)
