coach bolts holding up a 50" plasma?

Hi, Just recently installed my 50" panasonic onto the wall, after reading these forums of install ideas and what to use i opted for 4 projecting m10*135 anchor bolts. But when i tried to tighten the bolts to the bracket they just pulled out of the breeze blocks Not anchoring themselves at all!!! So i opted for 8 m8*100mm coach bolts, these go straight through the plaster and into the plugs that are firmly mounted in the blocks.

The bracket is solid and when the screen was placed against the wall its also solid and im quite confident that it will hold. But on returning to work today i told one of the guys how i mounted it and he seems to think that they are not adequate enough, my worries now are that when i return home( which is in ten days time) i will find a nice hole in my wall and a smashed plasma on the floor!

What do you guys think? should i have opted for larger bolts or is that really overkill? Its a 50pz70 by the way, anyone else just mounted using coach bolts into breeze blocks?

thanks

All though I have no experiance in mounting a screen to the wall, I would imagin that the bolts that you have used will be strong enough for the job. As long as the fittings are held well in to the block. Is it actually breeze block do you know? There is a type of block that looks similar but is VERY soft, cant think of the name at the moment.

you will be fine, you have to remember the tv is pulling downwards and not outwards so if the holes were tight to the bolts you will be ok.he probably doesnt understand the type of bolts you used, they are very heavy duty, ask him what he would suggest?

He'd probably suggest 10 cryptonite bolts of 3" diameter, and a 10" thick steel plate 6'x6' on the wall behind.

Think they are breeze block and not thermolite , which i think are the softer of the 2, but bolts are well sunk into the blocks and in the correct plugs and diameter holes for the plugs were drilled, so i think its adequate just made me think this am when the guy at work said " o dear think you will find it on the floor when you get back home"

Re: coach bolts holding up a 50" plasma?

I can tell you, as a builder, that even just one of those bolts would hold your screen in place provided they torque up correctly into the wall substrate.
When using anchors bolts you need to be able to secure the expanding barrel plates first within the correctly sized drilled hole, sometimes the conically shaped nut threaded to the stud end doesn't engage correctly to flare open the flanges of the barrel plates to bite into the wall and merely pulls the plates out of the drilling. all thats needed is a small screwdriver just to keep pressure on the top ring which effectively keeps pressure down on the plates and pull back on the stud so the conical nut can engage the plates. tighten up the nut till it bites securely then remove nut for mounting the bracket over the stud then secure nut back down to hold.
When done correctly they are one of the strongest fixings around
