Program to model buildings

hiya guys,

not sure if this was the right section, but ill give it a go anyway. Mods please relocate if necessary.

I'm looking for a program that allows me to model buildings, especially houses and particular rooms. I need it in order to plan where certain components of a network/ av system will sit.

Also, i'd prefer if it were Mac compatible.

Thanks in advance,

gw

Re: Program to model buildings

p.s. i've tried, sketchup. Its good, but I'd prefer templates of houses, apartments where I can edit rooms easily.

Re: Program to model buildings

You need Vectorworks... 3D CAD modelling systems like SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Pro-Engineer are all simple to use once you grasp the concept. However, I believe these will only work on XP. Adobe Illustrator is simple but not as simple as a pencil and paper. Scan that into your pc.

Search for freeware architectural software... not sure about MAC versions though.

Re: Program to model buildings

Microsoft Visio works quiet well if you want something simple and it has templates and I believe more are available to download.

I've used it to model the factory where I work and everyone was happy with the results.

I'd vote for Sketchup too. I use it everyday. Some examples of what it can achieve

Floor Plans

Re: Program to model buildings

Archicad can be quite good, I use it on my architecture course quite a lot and not too difficult.
