Cable choice & hiding it!

Firstly, apologies if this isn't posted in the most apt forum: this kind of crosses two topics so I wasn't totally sure where to put it....

I've recently jumped into the world of surround sound and got a pair of rear speakers however I've been having a bit of a problem sorting out a both lady-friendy & cost effective solution to hide the cabling.

The right rear is not so problematic, since I only need hide it for a metre or so down then it can travel most of the way to the amp underneath a window-sil. However the left surround cable needs to travel down a door frame and along a skirting board.

I foolishly thought that flat cable would be the best option, alas I think I might have been wrong. Firstly, the usefulness of flat cable disappears when the cable needs to change direction to negotiate around things: it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I bought double-sided tape in an attempt to stick the cable along the door frame, alas it won't stick for (nor anything like) toffee!

I need the cable to be white but inexpensive - it is only for rears and I don't want to spend much. Alas the cheaper cable (like the Gale stuff from RS) seems to be transparent through which you can the copper (?) strands whilst anything white seems to be much more costly (ie QED).

So, what I can I do in order to make the cable unobtrusive and keep my good lady happy?

Re: Cable choice & hiding it!

Cheers for your replies, guys.

I had thought about trunking and (providing I can get slim enough stuff) that looks to be the best solution for the problematic left speaker cable.

As for the right speaker: any ideas for what I can use to stick the cable to the underside of a (uPVC) window-sil? I don't think double-sided tape will be any good judging by what I've seen thus far.

Anyhow, I'll probably have to re-buy the cable for the rears since the flat stuff isn't going to be any use: £20odd down the drain, but hey you learn...

Re: Cable choice & hiding it!

Fit micro trunking under the window sill, some makes even come with a peel off tape to fix.

Re: Cable choice & hiding it!

Cheers for these replies.

Trunking looks to be the solution and I've found some suitable cable from another post elsewhere so these forums have come up trumps again.

Question Re: Cable choice & hiding it!

Why don't you take the skirting board off and run the speaker cable behind it instead of sticky taping it to window sill underledges?

Re: Cable choice & hiding it!

What about the little fixtures that fix ariel cables? The plastic clips with nails?
