Loft Home Cinema Room.

Ok i have had lots of inspiration from these forums and alot of good ideas so i thought " i want one of them " so from buying the house about 5 months ago here is where i am upto today.

Below is a few pictures of before and after of the first stage of my install.
Stage 1 was to get the loft hatch made bigger and the youngman ladders fixed up ,and also make the landing 2 ft bigger so you don't struggle to get onto the ladders.

Just to let you know i had all the plaster removed from every wall in the house and also all false ceilings put up ....what a mess !!!! but got there in the end .

Inside the loft

On the Landing before any Plaster is Removed & New Hatch Fitted

After Plaster has all been Removed

After the landing floor has been altered 18" Approx for better access to the ladders

Fitting the new Velux Window

Strengthening the Loft floor with some sturdy timbers from the center Supporting Wall

Temp insulation in loft space to keep some heat in untill i install the Kingspan or Rockwool Undecided as of yet which would be best.

2 Months Later !! Upstairs is nr finished after all the Plasterboard was fitted and a new Spindles/Post & Rails.door casing,doors etc etc

All of the flooring has now been fitted into the loft along with a feed for a radiator and the electrics.

Plan "B" now is to get the walls studded or plastered not sure what yet and get the roof insulated & Sondproofing as much as possible.

I have decided i would like to wood clad the loft ceiling and maybe plaster the walls , i will also be building some shelfs and cupboards up there to accomodate my equiptment and Pc and was thinking of some type of Pelmet to cover the PJ Screen when not in use.

I have been thinking of seating and wondered what settee i can fit up or would it have to be one of them frame type ones you have to build yourself .

I will try to update this thread as i go along so watch this space .

Looking good there. Why not use 3 of these as seating? I had a sofa but now have one of them and much prefer them.

that all looks excellent work and reminds me of when we did a loft conversion quite a few years ago

it will make a great cinema room trust me and looking forward to more photos

I have one already and it may end up there with 2 others .
TBH i don't think i will fit a settee up there unless its a self assembly one.

Lots more work to be done yet before i sit down

That's some major work going on mate.

Keep up the hard work it'll be well worth it in the end.

Did you not think about putting a permanent staircase in?

What about the rest of the house, get some pics up.

Good work

I have the identical loft ladder and Velux window possibly a little smaller.

Are those timbers 6 x 2 ? Look very solid there ! Quite high off the original joists so I guess you've got plenty of height up there ! Did you also fix the other ends to the wall plates ? I'm in the midst of a build myself and your lovely photo's have given me lots on inspiration

Absolutely loving that bathroom too, tiles are excellent and look

amazing.

One thing though, please tell me your keeping the pink woodwork you got going on in that room

That's a lot of hard work you've done already but it's looking great now!

I'm really interested in the loft joist strengthening too as I've got a similar job ahead of me and was going to get someone in to do it until I heard how much it would cost

Any tips gratefully received

How are the ends of the joists supported? Are the new joists only support by ceiling binders - is there a load-bearing wall under it?

It looks very similar to my hall/ loft. Why did you decide not to build permanent stairs? Does using a loft ladder mean you don't need to comply with building/ fire regs?

How's it looking at the moment?

Wow, that looks scarily like my house... wait a min, i heard some banging last night,...

On a more serious note, how do you find the perceived space with the lowered ceilings? we're considering lowering the ceilings upstairs to try an accommodate a full loft conversion, in the mean time, how does your landing extension affect access up and down the stairs, i'm 6 foot, and I feel like i'm going to knock my head on the landing upstairs as I climb the wooden hill.

Another step closer , i have put the partition walls up and fully sound insulated the walls & ceiling as picture below .

Next step is to run some cables for sockets and lighting and then either plasterboard it or wood clad it i have not decided yet.

i take it your not going to be putting a sub or any bass into that home cinema setup with that wood cladding and wood floor????????????

as it will sound, rather like a sagging, floppy, fart when on!

you need mass in your walls especially in this loft, i would say it would be best to consult someone who can make sure you get the best performance from your room.......

as we all want to see you have a good install

hope you can see this as constructive criticism

Thanks for the advise but i will be having extra thick carpet underlay as in picture plus a nice plush carpet, also i will be having furniture up there so i think my M&K Sub WILL pump out some floppy fart as you call it

As for the cladding i will be stainning it most probably with a satin finish,not sure what colour yet .
