Hi all,

Just thought would share with you all my attempt at going to create my bedroom home cinema setup. I have included a couple of pictures of before and a mock up of how it should look, should being the word.

first picture is how my old screen looked now got a new electric remote one to be also fitted

second picture is my first surrpund kit and speakers that was replaced with the efx and pioneer 1016 which has now been replaced with a onkyo 805


And the last picture is how im hoping the new build will look, with the plasma inserted into the raised wall. Along with the speakers and the av storage under it which I will be making. there will be blue led lights going on the back shelf pointing up and some under the storage unit and 6 behind the plasma.

Under the av storage section the bottom part of wall and skirting will be hinged so can be lifted to get full access to the plugs and chaning cables if needed

Any views ideas most welcomed

Just thought would post an update incase anyone was intrested.

Put the back bracing timber up and half sheet plasterboard before the mount the plasma bracket is put on. aswell as part the frame to frame around where the tv will be mounted.

Last picture is after taking the coving down and my previous fitted leds, so could work out hights and placement for the projector screen tomorrow.


Thanks the swords were bought here 2 years ago, some cataloge clearing sale for £60.

Hi all been a tad busy thought that would update this on how its going and whats been happing. Well slow progress at first due to being undecided about speakers in the end went with quad lites even managed to find them in stock in black.

As to whats been happing well here goes, after the hold up with the speakers once they were bought it was all go once had the sizes and could finish building the top section, which is were the tv and speakers will be housed. Also added a second double plug point aswell as the blue led lights. The first coat of paint was applyed after the plaster dried today, talk about home build I forgot how tiresome skimming with plaster is. The projector screen was also boxed in and plastered fits perfectly.

The picture of the back wall lit up showing the white looks like 2 blocks on the shelf its actualy 2 holes had to cun to get to the screws under the plasma mount to stop it coming away from the wall when tilted, will use them to pass the connection cables through aswell.

Now that the top section is about done tv will be on the wall tomorrow night, and bottom section that will hold all the av eqquipment will be started. Have realised that my projector will have to be brought forward due to throw distance so got to redo the ceiling aswell now.

Have decided to cut out a section of wall to turn into flush wall dvd storage.

Still to buy 10m hdmi cable, and 1:2 hdmi splitter anyone know where to get best prices on either?

One thing - I'm looking at doing something similar but ruled out the Quads because I thought they were rear ported. If they are (and Superfi think so) then you might have some issues if you are flush mounting them and putting them inside their own box in the wall. As far as I know, they will need the air to pull through the bass port at the back.

Hope I've got the wrong idea somewhere along the line though.

Your right about the quads they are rear ported, which im hoping that having them boxed in wont make a large effect to there sound as there is space at the back of them for air to flow into them and the center is a sealed speaker no ports. The rear port on the left and rights is very small at 22-25mm.


That was a hold up for over a week was picking speakers each place was giving different views on what effect flush mounting them would have and none the other speakers that I looked at seemed to fit into the space and budget. So I took the risk and went with what i felt gave great sound.

I will post up in here what the difference is when I get a chance to hook them up.

Would be really interested to know how they sound once you have them connected up as I'd written them off - perhaps a review might be in order! Keep the photos coming and good luck!

- You might find you get the best results with some foam plugs in the rear ports. Or an old sock (honest).

Thanks for that tip markp that was also what was told by a couple of the places I enquired about the quads, was to bung up the port and it might give an even tighter direct bass output.



just a little update,

Got a couple of packets of the remote sockets so have 6 in total, now just need to work out if can control them via my pronto.

Ordered up my hdmi splitter from ebuyer a 10m hdmi cable from ukhdmi & 50m of speaker cable going to be chased it into the walls for a 7.1 setup just in case for the future figure why not.

Have 2 new small 2 seater sofas coming today, anyones view of building a 2 teir system for them one sitting on the floor and one raised about a foot behind it?

I like the led lightning. Led lightning is also very low watt compared to standard lightning and a good step forward for the home cinema industry. I only have a little in my room. What do you use for the effect? I just have mine mounted as it's behind a plasterboard (not good!!).

Its the 10 pack of 15mm leds from B&Q just drilled the 12mm hole and pop them in, ive got 6 behind the tv and 2 on the top shelf set pointing at an angle. I think part of the effect along the top is also caused by that ive left 2 long openings above the tv on the top shelf for air to circulate so part the light is also coming through those spaces, I will post a couple of pictures of this later showing what I mean

The remaining 2 from the 10 are for the bottom section to point to the floor, when its built.. I should say that ive also got another 20 of the same 15mm leds set into the coving in the ceiling, so the room has a blue glow at night again will post pictures later

Hi all,

Just taken the pictures that said showing the 2 gaps at the top of the unit and how the light kinda reflects up, aswell as a couple showing the effect of the blue lights in the ceiling. I hope these are of help to people. and a couple with the tv on.


Not a lot of progress today fell off the shed roof and they say diy is a hazzard.
