HDMI Over Ethernet

Howdy,

So at present I've got two main screens

Sanyo Z4 PJ upstairs in the main cinema room
Sony 50" Rear Projection downstairs in the lounge.

Upstairs is where the HD sources are located (sky, ps3, xbox360) and I'm starting to investigate the best options for getting some hd content downstairs.

I've also just ordered a linkstation live (500GB) NAS device as well which will form the core of the home.

My original plan was to buy a secondary (UK) PS3 as this would give me access to regionB Blue Ray disks as well as HD / SD content on the Linkstation over the home network. This however got me thinking about the longevity of this idea in regards to not being able to play HD-DVDs (yes I know they are possibly on their way out but I already have a fair few and as I far as I know they wont magically turn to dust on Dec 31st 2008 )

So now I'm thinking about delivering this content to the TV downstairs over the home network.

Any ideas on how this could be possible. I'm thinking if it was possible to convert an HDMI signal to ethernet, send this over the home network, reconvert it back to HDMI and plug it into the TV. This way I would be able to deliver content to the TV downstairs without the need for a box below the TV. Perhaps one fatal flaw in this - getting the sound down as well?

Just wondering if anyone else is thinking or pehrpas done this in the past, or indeed have any other ideas on how best to achieve this.

cheers,

Nige
