hiding wall mounted LCD Cables - Getting behind the skirting boards

hello all

Just a quick question after looking at mny great threads on these forums i've decided to have ago at mounting my telly and hiding the cables.

I've got as far as mounting the telly and a shelf for the center which however needs moving (too close to the telly)

here is a pic so far.

Anyway my question is, having never chased a wall out, when i get down to the skirting boards is there a way i can get the cables behind the skirting and under the floor boards without taking them off? and if not (as i suspect) what is the easiest way to go about this?

Hi SunTzu

This depends - is your house a new build? Is that solid wall? Or is that a just plasterboard on a wooden frame?

If it is a solid wall - then yes you can use a wall chaser - I did - I hired one from jewsons - messy job (in terms of dust!)

Regarding the skirting - this is either glued on or is nailed on - either way there is usually a gap where the plasterboard finishes and the floor - cabling should fit in there no problem

As regards the floor boards are you chasing the wires to the other end of your room - if so the easiest thing maybe to route the cable wround the skirting to the other end of the room (provided there is no break in the route e.g. a door frame)

Best of luck - any other questions let me know

Re: hiding wall mounted LCD Cables - Getting behind the skirting boards

hello zanetti4

the house was built circa 1910 so not a new build and the wall i believe is solid brick, however when i was drilling to mount the LCD bracket there seemed to be some kind of cavity an inch or 2 in. i must say my knowledge of building DIY is limited so i would be winging it.

i'm routing the cables to a chest of draws just to the right of the tv where i'm going to build some shelve for my kit

so i was thinking straight down from the tv under the floor boards and then bring the cables up from the back of the chest of draws

do you think there would be enough room to get a plug/skart lead behind the skirting because i believe it may have been screwed to the wall and i fear if i rip it off i'll never get it back on neatly again

One thing you could consider is to exit the cables next to your twin socket using one of these plates assuming your shelving will be near by.

i was planning on moving the twin sockets to the right so theyed be hidden by the chest of draws and adding some more sockets for gear and bringing the cables up round the back of the draws so you wouldn't see them.

Allthough this is something else i'm a bit stumped by i have 9 items that need plugging would it be best to use multibars or is there a nother solution?
