New house - 70's lounge. Time to start again!

Hi all,

We've just moved house last week... The decor that was in the house stinks of 70's... dado rails, wood effect lumpy wallpaper, horrible carpet etc etc. We decided to rip it all up as soon as we moved in.

Now my DIY skills are pretty poor, but I thought I'd give it a go.

What's gone so far:
Artex ceiling (plasterer did this!)
Carpet
Dado rails
Skirting
Ceiling lights
Horrible brass sockets/switches

Actually thinking about it we have removed everything!

What's going in
14 GU10 spots
Extra 2 double sockets below TV mount
Dimmers
Quickstep flooring
Gun Metal sockets
Lined walls
New KEF 3005SE
New Onkyo 605
Wall mounted Panasonic PX70
V+ box
Skimmed ceiling
PS3

All wires are now chased into the walls. Anyway, here's some pics so far:

The day we moved in:

Removed carpet, wallpaper etc:

Testing TV mount!

Lined walls and half a skimmed ceiling with spotlights:

Re: New house - 70's lounge. Time to start again!

Spurs1882/Duradrum, your setups look great, I'm currently contemplating the best way to wall mount my 42" Panasonic plasma. I was certain the best method was to build a false chimney breast out of studwork and plasterboard, that way I could hide all the cables etc. Having seen your efforts, I'm now changing my mind. The planned site to mount the TV is on a block (I believe) and brick party wall, all I would need to do is to chase the wall to take the HDMI, aerial, mains and speaker cables. Do you any pictures /drawings that specifically show the wall chasing, wire runs etc.

Thanks

Terry

Sorry mate, been asked the same question many times but did not take any pictures

What I would do is get the bracket first and place it where you want to put it and then mark around it. Make sure you chase around bracket so you will know for sure that your not going to drill through the wires, I would do what Duradrum has done.
Also I would put flat metal trunking over the wires as cement/plaster does eat through plastic over time.

On how many HDMI sockets you have on your screen, I would also run into the wall. You never know.

Hope this helps matey.

Thanks mate

Colour is Mocha from Dulux Trade - Maraschino Mocha 6.

Gives a subtle 'off' white but not too stark and bright.
