Hey guys,

I really like the look of brick work inside, especially with a TV mounted to it! I have a recessed area of my bedroom in my new place which is about 2m wide and is where the LCD will be mounted. Will have a couple of those barrel lights either side. Id like to think itll look nice!. Could I build a fake brick wall here up against the plasterboard wall (which is a party wall)? If so, how hard would it be and is there an easier way?!

Personally i would clad the party wall with brick slips to save on space

alternatively they used to do 8x4 sheets of brick effect paneling not sure if you can still find that in this day and age tho if i spot any ill give you a shout.
I'm not sure about your experience with a trowel but if its lacking i would avoid doing any face-work yourself

Scott, that first one looks absolutely ideal. Will have a good read of it all later! Have never used a trowel before, but like to think myself quite good at DIY. Am willing to have a go at anything, put it that way!

One thing to consider if you are building a proper brick wall is the floor. That may sound silly but depending on which way the joists go your new wall could just be supported on 20mm chipboard!!!!!!! If the joists go at 90 degrees to the new wall then I would still try and get a lintle to go at the bottom to make sure the load is spread across the joists.

I think scott R's idea of brick slips is the safest. Remember if you are mounting a plasma to the wall it sould be a good strong wall. If the wall is plasterboard ten you need good fixings into the vertical stud work.

Thanks ched. The joists are perpendicular to the wall so that isnt a problem. Think I will go with steves idea, if I even go ahead with it at all! The screen is only a 32" so not hugely heavy. Will probably cover the plasterboard wall with plywood first and then mount the screen and the frame for the slips through both layers.
