well in truth its not been a pub since the mid 1900's but and has been a papershop since but a private house when we bought it

since then we have carried out a full refit on the house itself

and to the basements we have reopened the dray run to create a light well and enlarged the coal shoot a little to create a 2 meter wide stair case with french doors

thats the oridginal floor plan the wall between the two small rooms has gone and the wall about the word storage has a french door in it

so we are now at the point of fitting the membrain and actual being able to use the space

The home cinema will be in the room furthest from the stairs with the screen on the middle wall this will allow for storage on the end walls

also the other three wall have windows,electic boards or a curved surface

the dimensions are 5m x 3.8m with a head height of 2.2m

in the other room we will have a small bathroom and a gym that rooms 6 m x 4m again with a 2.2m head height

were using a olyroyde membrain finished with plasterboard and skimmed. the ceiling will be made up with resilliance channels and 2 layers of 12.5mm plasterboard the screen wall will be a stud partition infront of the brick as this will allow for cables to be run and a channel inset though this wall and up to the ceiling to allow for cables to the projector

the floor is already of a decent quality but will be tanked with the membrain, leveled with sand, covered with 25mm of jabalite insulation and finished with chipboard flooring with the joints glued.

this looks like its gonna be a gudden, only tip is to make sure all the tanking is done correctly as you only want to do it once. Apart from that its all plain sailing so keep the pics coming and good luck

definaltly a digger job plus a concrete breaker and mini dumper !!!! The previous 6 owners had all put in a patio unfortunaly none of them bothered to remove the previous one. so 50 tonnes got removed (12 tonnes for the steps) form a terrace house garden there was 18 inches of mixed paving in places. a lot of work but it makes the garden much more private and the house dryer as the paving front and rear was over the damp courses

the morral is never trust a survey we had 2 done one for the mordgage people and a second full structural survey instructed by us neither spotted this issue or the rot in the ground floow joist it had caused


this is the spoil heep we had in the road waiting for the 4 grab lorry loads

to give you some back ground i never intented to put this much spoil on the road but a neighbour reported me when we had about one parking space filled to get some working space. the county council guy turned up and explained that the inspectors wouldn't be out till the tuesday as it was easter weekend so get as much of it out as you can as once they have visited and taken pics you cant add any more so we did and thats the result 5 parking spaces filled 5 feet high and 6 ish feet wide

forgot to mention in the specs above that i'm going to use resilliance bar's on the ceiling and the internal wall the membrane should give some decoupling for the other walls though they should be dead due to the earth behind them.

also in a effort to avoid sound escaping I plan to put the first skin of platerboard on the ceiling then fit the wall boards seal the joint then fit the second skiin to the ceiling this should step the joints and give a stronger joint. obviously this will all then get skimmed.

The ceiling rafters will have 170mm of rockwool tyoe insulation again for acustic reasons

its been mentioned the plan is to have a railling inside the doors so they can be opened to see the garden in the summers without the fear of falling waiting for the building inspectors next visit to get the specs it needs to meet

Just a quick question as I am also using olyrodye membrane for my cellar tanking, why are you using sand over the top? is there any benefits to this.

the existing floor though good isn't perfect for level so the sand is a leveling layer and also fills the dimples in the membrain so strengthens it


sorry for the lack of updates but the building inspector put a massive hole in my plans and wanted extra data on the membrain and engineers calcs for the window once the old broken up concrete had been removed but hopefully the tanking starts monday

on a happy note my new speakers arrived this morning wharfedale evo2-20 floor standers and a centre to match in cherry and the sound is stunning cant wait to hear them in a enviroment with less echo ( our lounge has a laminate floor)

anyways back to the power wirebrush to clean down the walls ready for monday

we used sand underneath as well so it didn`t get punctured from any surface above or below

funny enough thats the system the building inspector suggested to use membrain then 4 inche on coctrete and 9 inches of block work my responce was something close to BLOCKS but i added an extra O and L now i have supplied the relevent paper work for the system were using they have begrudgingly accepted it now trrying to work out how to fit the shower now

well after more excavation the shower can now be fitted

the first of the membrain went in to the bathrooms floor today as we had to dig it down to allow the shower to be pmped by the saniflow as the building inspector vito'ed the idea of using the membrain sump to pump the shower even though its going to have a back up pump and alarm he wouldnt allow the ground water and fowel water to mix even though they both go to the sewer pics will follow later but the tanking starts in full monday
