Media Centre setup

This might be newbie question and probably psoted in wrong place...so sorry in adavnce...

I wanted to set up a media centre eenvironment at my house...liek one PC as media centre of if any boxes that provide same solution like PS3 does at present i think?

Basicaly i got Denon 2805 amp, sky plus, dvd player and somehow waned to set up some media centre so can store all my pictures videos and record programs tpo one place. Is that possible f so any good setup or guidlines on how this c an be done?

If PC is best solution i rather have my PC upstairs and tv setup downstairs in that case what would be the cabling i require?

Soprry for these questions but im total newbie in this and ive seen some setup pics and they look GREAT

Re: Media Centre setup

Lots of options to do what you want. You really need to read some of the forums below and learn a bit about streaming, media PC's, Network Storage, Networking etc. This should give you loads of info on thhe sort of thhings you want to do. i personally am using a PC in my office connected to my router (internet) via cat5 cable and an old original Xbox (connected via Cat5 to my router)that has been chipped and Xbox Media Centre installed (XBMC is free) this plays anything I throw at it that is stored on my office PC. The only downside is that the Xbox isnt really capable of playing 720p and above. So if you are after igh def then the Xbox isnt really up to it.

Anyway good luck and have a look at the forums below.
