Mounting plasma on chimney wall issue

Hi all,

We've finally found the house we want and are due to move in in the next few weeks so obviously, I've started to think about the AV setup.

There is a loung/diner with a chimney and gas fire in both. I have contacted a heating engineer and he can remove these (outdated and ugly) gas fires for a reasonable amount but the back boilers would have to stay put, unless I get the whole lot re-done (which I don't want to do!).

Due to this, would it be ok to still mount the plasma on the wall once the fire has been taken off? I'm a bit weary of drilling into the wall for the anchor bolts if there's a possibilty I'm going to hit something. Also I won't be channeling any cables in the walls, these will be covered with plastic casing.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Garry.

Who said you can take out the fire and keep the back boiler in place?

I just rang a local heating/plumber firm. I told him I wanted the fires taken off but would I need to move the back boiler somewhere else i.e the kitchen but he said no that isn't possible anymore due to regulations so I thought fine, I'll get the fires removed but just keep the boilers in the chimney just not being used.

Am I missing something here then or have been missinformed?

Well I have the old backboiler with the fire on the front, I hate ours too but havnt got the money to change the system at the moment. And have often wondered if you can indeed get rid of the fire and leave the boiler in place.

Spoke to my uncle whos a plumber and has been for as long as I can remember, he said you used to be able to do this but not any more. In other words you could get it done but you would never be able to sell the house on like it.

Bloody horrible things!

Re: Mounting plasma on chimney wall issue

Hmmm it is very annoying. Even if I don't install the plasma on the chimney wall I stil want the fires taken off. Might have to research this a bit more about leaving these boilers. I thought they could be decommisioned and left to be bricked/plasterd up in the wall?

So to my original question, if I was to get the fire taken off but the boiler left in place, could I still drill into the wall for the wall bracket?

If not I might just focus my attention to the opposite wall and do a floating wall concept.

Re: Mounting plasma on chimney wall issue

The back boiler behind these type of fireplaces ins't usually that much bigger than the fire, and would be easy to remove, albeit you;d need a new boilder somehwere.

When we moved into our place, the old fire and backboiler was removed, new combie boiler put in loft......
