Using tape to hide micro speaker cable

Hi,

Am more than likely goign to purchase some kef 5005.2 and wall mount them i nthe next few weeks. Tv is already mounted and need to channel out down the wall to hide these, so the centre speaker will be done in this process.

When it comes ot the speakers at the side of the tv, I dont really want to channel accross from either side, and since the gap between the side of the tv and speaker wil lonyl be about 5cm I wondered if there was any kind of decorators tape that I could use. As I would be using qed micro, I think I'd be hard pushed to see the bump under the tape, espeically from 3 metres away.....whats your thoughts on thsi or has anyone done the same?

Re: Using tape to hide micro speaker cable

If you re-plastering anyway I'd just get the channels put in, its no extra work. I have seen various tapes, but they look bad, after a few months it starts to shink and discolour due to the heat from the screen.

Heres a little pic of a customers so you know what it will look like mid job... and after... (may help with the WAF) It will be worth the little extra effort....

Dupe...

Re: Using tape to hide micro speaker cable

looks good....are the channels still open for extra cables if needed then? If so, what kind of trunking is in the wall?

I hadn't thought of goign straight down on all 3 until I saw your piccy's......don't suppose it matters which way it goes really...

I has hoping to do a hole at the top, and one at the bottom and feed the cables through but hit fire proofing behind the palsterboard so now way I can shoved 6odd cables down through that....

P.s I see your also an Evo man, hehe

Re: Using tape to hide micro speaker cable

No, the channels are just standard electricians capping in steel, I have looked at channels before, but in reality as long as you think about the job there should be no reason to add cables later, how often will you upgrade over next 5 years? By then your room will need re-decorating anyway! Just add spare HDMI, couple of cat5 for general use and maybe optical. Also the channels would have to be fairly large rather than just the top layer of plaster and board which would add a reasonable amount of time and mess.

Another pic of cables running across below, just try and run cables according to part P rules, its good practice.

I was an evo man, but got rid as now doing new business and want to move house. Now have Transit Connect! But will return to the evo once funds allow!

Dupe…

Re: Using tape to hide micro speaker cable

Thanks...I know what you mean about the cables but I will probhably swap my xbox for the hdmi version sometime next year.....

Ill just channel accross for side speakers and straight down for the tv cables and try and put some wide trunking in there and use a fishtail if/when a new cable needs adding...

Thanks for your help....

Shame bout the evo, Ive not yet had one (cant justify the money)....
