Wall speaker sockets

All,

Has anyone used these and found any major degradation in sound quality. I think they look great and give a nice finish.

I'm gonna be getting some acoustic energy aego T's (about £600) so don't want it to be a waste of money. Will my ears notice any difference?

Gurj.

Re: Wall speaker sockets

131 views and no replies, I guess nobody has a bad thing to say about them. Or vice versa!

Personally, I will be running (eventually) speaker cable around my house and using wall plates like these. Every additional link in information distribution reduces the quality by a certain factor. How much that is depends on your kit, your ears, your listening environment, your source material etc...

I will pretty much have it everywhere, apart from the dedicated 2CH music room. Hope that helps.

Re: Wall speaker sockets

I bookmarked the thread instantly but I don't have any experience of quality trade-offs... I was hoping somebody would post and let us know :-)

On the subject of plates (and a bit of a hi-jack), I'm abroad so the standard UK face plates don't fit here, and apparently nobody in Finland uses banana plugs for their speaker face places (they use DIN instead).

Does anybody know where you can pick up good quality female banana plug connectors?

Sort of like the ones on here:

http://www.letsautomate.com/11997.cfm?

but perhaps better quality and not pre-attached to the plastic? I already have blank face places ready-to-go but I'm still missing the connectors.

Maplin's have some, but they look a bit tatty?

Re: Wall speaker sockets

I usually buy a lot of my (smaller) things in the UK because I find it quite hard finding things over here (I'm English).

Those are exactly the kind of thing I'm after, thanks!

Re: Wall speaker sockets

Miniholic has made his own for his home cinema build, check this thread:

Miniholic's Home Cinema "The Miniplex"

Post 404 onwards has some info on female banana plugs, and homemade wall plates.

Re: Wall speaker sockets

Thanks for the plug Miceri.

The ones I used came from cpc and are pretty good quality. If you would rather go for gold plated ones you can get them from Nexxia, but there is quite a price difference.

The part numbers for the ones I have are:-

AV15377 Red
AV15378 Black

They cost a mighty £1.49 for a pack of ten. The same ones are £1.70 a pair from Nexxia, or £2.50 a pair if you require the gold plated ones.

I'm not in a position to comment on sound quality as mt room is still a little way off being finished, but I've never heard any bad reports or I wouldn't have gone this way myself.

1st time I've seen then finished Allan, looking very smart just like the rest of your build. Is that the side of your rack they are sitting on?
