Hi

As you may know, my parents only permit me to have a home cinema setup in the lounge if it looks very tidy. This means no wires, basically.

For a while I've coped with putting the projector on the coffee table and pulling out the wires from under the kit rack when required. However, this is getting tiresome and I want to mount the projector on the ceiling!

Only trouble is, my parents won't allow some simple cable casing stuck to the ceiling and down the side of the wall. This looks 'too ugly'.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Simple. Well not simple but here goes.

You need to get upstairs and take up the carpet and the floorboards, then feed the cables between or through the livingroom ceiling joists. Of course you then have the problem of feeding the cables down the wall. For that you need to hack out the plaster and brickwork, feed the cables through, cover the cables and and replaster.

Hmm! So, how do I feed the cables through? I doubt I'll be able to dangle them down the wall and luckily get it through the hole.

Also, is there anything that can go on the ceiling and the wall that the cables go through, rather than just a 'hole'?! It wouldn't look too great with a hole in the ceiling!

Jezzer, I reckon if you're going to hang a big ugly projector on the ceiling, a little bit of cable trunking won't make things look too much worse. Here's a pic of my living room .

OK, that doesn't look 'messy', but it would look better without the cable trunking!

Oh, and it's not my decision, it's the parents - so I must adhere!

Jezzer, you asked about tidying up the hole the wires in the ceiling would go through? I remember seeing someones very ingenious idea on this forum of using the housing of a small halogen ceiling spotlight (minus the light of course!) to run the cables through. It gave it a very professional looking finish IMHO.

Sorry, but I can't remember who actually did this (was on the forum a month or two before).

Hi,

Is it possible to get ceiling mounts that can take the wires down through the centre of the mount, so the wires are hidden..?

So long as you can get to the ceilig from above (through the upstairs floor boards) then this would make for a very neat solution.

Thanks guys, both good ideas. I shall look into the hollow ceiling mount - if I can't find anything then I might use the halogen light idea.

Just a bit more persuasion then I can start I reckon!
