Advice/idea please?

I have recently bought a 40" 1080p Samsung LCD TV and want to wall mount it above where my fire would be, on a brick chimney breast.

The problem I have is that it is to be installed in an upstairs flat and I want my AV kit in the alcove on the right hand side as you look at the wall. The problem being, on the right hand side, before you get to my flu space you first have to go through the flu for down stairs.

Originally I was going to just run all the wires I needed through a channel in the wall but this means buying, amongst other stuff, 3 5m HDMI cables at at least £50 a shot which, as I have no 1080p kit other than my tv at the present, would mean I would have no means of testing.

I was thinking of running my wires through some sort of conduit running through the chimneys, has anyone tried this?
Or, has anyone got any other ideas so I can just pull the wires through as I need them?

Thanks in advance.

I have done something very similar to what you describe and you can read about it here ...

Gavster's modest home cinema

Do the occupants of downstairs actually use the fireplace? That may be a problem if you have extremely hot air rising past the ducting ... maybe

Alternatively, you could always use a system like this ...

... which would save a lot of grief.

Hope this helps.

Re: Advice/idea please?

I'll have a look at your build and see. I have no idea if they use the fire downstairs. Should probs ask.

My problem with that cable is, I have looked, there seems to be ablot of confusion regarding how good a HDMI to buy.
If I am going to be plastering it into the wall then it needs to be 1080p first time. At the min I have no way of checking.

Poss time to go and buy a PS3.

Re: Advice/idea please?

As many on here will tell you, an HDMI is an HDMI whether its £5 or £50, you wont see much (if any) difference.

I'm absolutely no expert, but from what I gather HDMI is HDMI but only up to 5m or so, above that the quality cables really show their worth.
