Question My plans for plasma panel

Hello everyone

I'm planning to wall mount my 42 inch panny and use two melamine faced mdf (MF-MDF) wall panels above and below the screen to hide the cables. The panels will be of equal width to the screen, project 20cm from the wall and extend to the floor and the ceiling. I intend to put a few shelves in the space between the wall and panels on either sides for cd/dvd storage and shelves below the screen for equipment.

I don't want to create a false wall because a) don't want something too permament, b) don't have space and c) MF-MDF has a ready-made nice finish and hopefully I'll find something which matches my new kitchen which is open to the living room (preferably in high gloss black).

As I don't want to spoil the finish by putting visible screws through the front, I'm thinking of ways to hang it in some way.

top down view
-------- brick wall
===== 6" wooden batten
==/== 3" batten/3" batten<---- screw together
===== 6"wood batten
-------- MF-MDF

By using the arrangement (poorly described above), I can hang the panel by by fixing wooden battens to the wall and mdf, hang them on top of each other and secure it by screwing the interlocking peices together by accessing them from the sides. I'm a complete amateur at DIY so I'd appreciate any tips on how to do this better or more gracefully

If you know of any good/cheap suppliers of mf-mdf, I would also be interested to hear

Thanks
Feridoun

sounds all good and very involved,if you get stuck and feel you have to have the screws on show then the site below do a massive range of screw covers.

sorry if its no help now,but it may be of some use if you do have screws on show.

Re: My plans for plasma panel

Thanks for the advice - gives me options.

I can't see any examples of something like this on avforums. Anyone have experience?
