Louishm's Next Project

Well after a lot of deliberation about selling up and moving we have decided not to so we have decided to wall mount the plasma (50" sammy) on the chimney breast.

The build hasn't started yet and will hopefully commence this weekend.

The fire surround was bought by us when we moved here 2 years ago to keep in with the features of the house (victorian) and cost nearly £1000 so it will be stored just incase we ever decide to put things back as they are now.

kit will consist of the Sammy
PS3
360
Mac Mini (a lot of my movies stored on this)
Virgin Tv
Sony AV Reciever
Eltax 6.1 Speaker setup ( Hopefully upgrading in the near future)

I have posted pics of the current setup and the chimney breast in question

I was impressed by this install Here by keyjade.

I am unsure at the moment as where i should place the av kit, either at the base of the chimney or in one of the units i will be building into the alcoves. Your thoughts and comments will be much appreciated.

thanks
Paul

Me too, especially in this type of property unfortunately its all going. The new plasma wall and alcove cupboards will be cream but the carpet will be replaced with a dark oak floor.

lol so all the dark wood is coming off the wall and going on the floor.

Thanks mate. I will be using a small amount of keyjades ideas mostly the alcove idea. The main wall where the plasma will be mounted will be built out using timbers, boarded then skimmed as most members have seem to opted for. As you noticed with the young ones running around i think this way will be easier and less messy.

Re: Louishm's Next Project

Good luck with this - looking forward to seeing your progress. Am planning something similar and KeyJade's was one of the projects I had admired too.

I think puting all the AV gear in a purpose built unit in one of the alcoves would look good. You could put wooden doors on the unit to hide the av gear or use glass doors to show it all off, maybe with some back lighting and glass shelves. Either way it means the kids wont get their hands on it.

This is an idea i am going to be using in the future, just got to get round to it.

Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing the end result.
