LCD mount on TV - cables?

Hello everyone!

Please bear with me - I did a search for this, but would like some feedback on my situation.

I want to mount a LCD tv on my chimney breast. I got a quote from a company - £260! To chase in the wires as well.

I was wondering how hard it is to chase wires if I hired the correct tools. Also, how safe is it to do this (into a brick) chimney breast. Would I make my house fall down?

I think I'll need one or two HDMI cables, power, aerial, maybe a VGA cable. Would I be able to put in trunking and add more cables later - would this work around a 90 degree bend??? i.e. around the chimney breast.

Thanks!

AB

The price depends on the difficulty of the hob.

If you have a new house and the room is a bit of a mess anyway then i'd say do it yourself, but if you have furniture and electronics all in then perhaps the pro's could do a cleaner install.

you only need to chase about 40mm square so i wouldnt worry too much about the house collapsing.

Re: LCD mount on TV - cables?

I'm in the exact same poistion as you.

There's a small alcove between the chimney breast and the wall.

This alcove would be ideal to stick my home cinema / xbox / sky.

So the equipment would be next to the wall mounted TV.

How easy is this to do? Who do you phone to get this done? surely not a plasterer?

I also have the problem of a radiator being under where I want my TV...

How hard is it to move a radiator from one side of the room to the other?

Is it worth it?

Well I looked up a company called 'Master AV services' I think. They do installs like this.

We just bought the place and are decorating - so nothing in the room. Am tempted to do it myself but still unsure!
