Arrow Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

I have just been told its not safe to mount my pioneer (or anything else) above my wall hung gas fire as the rising heat will damage the plasma.

The fire has to be wall hung and cannot be recessed (manufacturers instructions). http://www.focalpointfires.plc.uk/Platinum+1.pdf

What are my best options for my home cinema system now?

Please help

Re: Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

i have had mine hanging above my fire for 3 years without incident.

originally i ordered a toughened glass shelve and a set of brackets and fitted it under the tv to deflect the heat into the room and stop it rising to impede the tv.

After about a year i took a moment and realised i only used the fire occaisionally and the heat output of 3.0kw didnt feel that hot - so out came the shelve.

3 years and it hasnt over heated, blew up or had any affect in performance.

i have seen many tv's over fires so i suppose it depends on whether your brsve enough to take the risk.

worse case scenario is it blows a fuse and you simply return it or claim on your insurance!

Re: Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

just read the instruction book - your fire produces even less output than mine.

get a toughed glass shelve ordered and fit it above the fire then hang it - im sure it will be fine mate

Just spoke to the fire manufacturers and they advised me NOT mount a TV above the gas fire.

What fire do you have? Is a wall hung flueless gas fire?

Re: Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

If you ask any one for a professional opinion they will tell you not to do it. On the other hand a lot of people will tell you they went ahead and mounted their plasma above a gas fire with no problems. This is a long running discussion and to date I have never heard anyone admitting to a blown plasma because they mounted it above a fire. As long as there is a good gap between them or you use a baffle, the shelf mentioned is a good idea, you should be fine. If you want more help then stick a thermometer on the wall above the fire and see how much the temperature rises. Remember you could put your hand down on the top of this fire, if it does not hurt you it will not hurt your plasma. Think about it.

Don't beleive all the rubbish you hear. I have had mine over a Gazco Riva 67, outputting 5.7kw for 4 months now!

I get a lovely heat from the fire and my Pioneer outputs a cracking picture with Sky HD!

Don't worry about it, yes it will get hot but they can handle a lot more than you might think.

Is the Gazco Riva 67 a Wallhung Flueless gas fire (no chimney)?
How much space have you left between the top of the gas fire and bottom of the plasma?

I haven't had my fire fitted yet but the guys who's fitting it installed one yesterday and he said alot of heat comes out the top of the wall hung gas fire - so im still unsure.

Re: Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

Its built into the wall and uses the chimney. There's a fair bit of heat comes out the top but most tvs can handle around 100 degress/F without any problem whatsoever. There was an American guy wrote an article on it but i cant remember where it is.

There is around 70cm between the top of my fire and the tv.

Re: Plasma above Wall Hung Gas Fire

just thought i would say that you can put a screen above a fire BUT i would not advise it,the reason i say is the heat that comes from a fire will make the unit run very hot SO your nice panel will run hot for long times.what im trying to say is you might bring down the lifespan of your panel by making its components run to there limits often.just like a car that runs very hot can work fine but keep it up and things will start to go.good luck
