soundproofing a window

hi been looking at how to soundproof my window,as i live on a main road already have double glazing

Triple glazing?

Sorry, that's not very helpful.

Are you sure it's the window?

Double glazing is normally a pretty good noise insulator, is why I'm asking.

no its defintley the window its an old council house, i know its hard to stop the noisy bass music cars. just need to stop genral car engine noises

Good question, then

If it has a decent gap between the two panes (15mm or 1/2 inch), I don't know.

If it's only a small gap, it might be worth ripping it out and replacing with a modern one, as it's bound to be more efficient, both sound and heatloss- wise.

If it's steel framed, I'd get rid anyway.

But I'd be looking at what's filling the gaps around the window, too.

Hopefully others will give better suggestions.
