New Projector & Surround Sound Setup - Advice Needed!

Hi

I am thinking of getting an Infocus IN72 projector and a surround sound system but would like some advice on how to set it up as I have never had either.

I have attached a plan of the room I intend to use.

The whole top wall is basically a window and glass door onto a balcony. I intend to get curtains/blinds to block out the light from this.

The sofa will be as it is in the picture. I will have a regular crt tv on a unit against the wall opposite it. The projector will be projecting onto this wall as well.

I will have an ntl digital box, a dvd player, a ps2 and a wii to connect. Can anyone explain how all these will connect to the tv/projector and surround sound system and what cables I will need?

I will be laying wooden floors in this room so would like to run any cables I might need under the floor. I know this is possible for the speaker cables but can I do the same for the projector cables?

Where is the best place to have the projector? I'd prefer not to ceiling/wall mount it but I will if I have to.

What cables do I need to run under the floor from behind the sofa to the tv unit for both the speakers and the projector?

Thanks

Re: New Projector & Surround Sound Setup - Advice Needed!

i would make sure you future proof your cabling as the IN72 has the majority of inputs (hdmi/component/composite/s-video,etc). Regarding your surround sound setup you might be better looking at a seperate amp and speaker package this way you will have more inputs to play around with on the amp.
So for instance if all your equipment connected via composite this would require 1 composite cable going to the projector and then to the amp then all you equip connects to the amp.

Thanks.

I had been wondering about the amp/receiver sets. So with an amp/receiver all the equipment connects to the back of that and there is just a single cable output to connect to the tv/projector?

basically yes. but like i said i would future proof your cabling incase of future upgrades. i.e if you purchase something that requires component or hdmi outputs in the future the cabling is there ready to use

Thanks again.

I obviously don't have much of a clue about this stuff.

Would you have any suggestions for a good entry level amp and speaker & sub woofer set?

It would have to have enough inputs for the digital tv, dvd, ps2 and wii.

Re: New Projector & Surround Sound Setup - Advice Needed!

all depends on your budget mate, have a look in the relevant forums (av recievers/speakers). My living room setup consists of a sony 6.1 amp £175 and a set of eltax speakers with sub £140. The amp is only an entry level one but does my needs. it has component/composite/coaxial/optical inputs enough for my 360/ps3 (sound only)/ virgin media tv & mac mini.

see amp here

Well the Sony HT-DDW890 seems decent and would fit my budget.
