Plasterer Cost Required

Not quite for home cinema but this was the closest forum that I thought could provide a rough idea of costs.

My Lounge is approx 15.1 ft (4.6m) x 12.5 ft (3.9m).

Whats a rough estimate for a plasterer to skim coat some artex in a room this size.

Also a possiblity of all walls needing a skim over as well so price for this also would be nice.

Thanks

Re: Plasterer Cost Required

I'm guessing but based on plasterers I've used in the past (based in Manchester), I would say around £350 (including plaster) with the ceiling too. And the ones that I've seen start around 8 am and go home about lunchtime.

Re: Plasterer Cost Required

I knocked the roof down to get rid of the artex (it was plaster not artex in the end) and got a mate round the corner to skim the fresh plasterboard for £70 + mats.

Shame you don't live closer to the Midlands - cos he loves doing these foreigners!

Re: Plasterer Cost Required

We recently had all the walls in our house re-plastered to get rid of some seriously grim artex. The plasterer scraped the walls down with the flat edge of a hand-saw, and then skimmed over the top. 5 rooms plus stairs/landing costs us £1200 all in. It was about a week's work, starting at 8am & finishing about 3 or 4pm.

Re: Plasterer Cost Required

Had a plasterer in this weekend doing some work in my new room. Normal day rate in our area is about £180 per day plus materials (a bit less for cash, not that I would condone such a thing )

With an artexed ceiling you have to watch how well adhered the artex is as it can come down after a few years. Also check the joints, if these are cracked the need raking out and taping over.. All in all it may be easier (and ultimately cheaper) to pull down the existing ceiling OR tack straight over the top. It depends on whether you have cornice / coving as well. Also what height is the ceiling? If very high he may need all sorts of platforms to work off.
